Residential Elevator amp; Stairlift Mechanic
Full-time · Field / On-site · Skilled Trades
Position Summary
We are looking for a skilled and dependable residential elevator and stairlift mechanic to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair home elevator systems and stairlift units. The ideal candidate brings hands-on mechanical and electrical expertise, takes pride in quality workmanship, and is committed to delivering safe, reliable accessibility solutions for residential clients.
Key Responsibilities
  • Install new residential elevator systems (hydraulic, pneumatic, cable-driven, and traction) and stairlift units (straight-rail and curved-rail) according to manufacturer specifications and local building codes.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance inspections, lubrication, adjustments, and safety checks on installed equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults using schematics, diagnostic tools, and manufacturer documentation.
  • Ensure all equipment meets ASME A17.1/CSA B44 (residential elevators) and ASME A18.1 (platform lifts and stairway chairlifts) safety code requirements.
  • Coordinate with homeowners, builders, and contractors to plan installations and communicate project timelines, requirements, and completion status.
  • Respond to emergency service calls and accurately document all work performed, parts used, and inspection results.
  • Maintain an organized company vehicle stocked with appropriate tools, parts, and safety equipment.
  • Train clients on safe operation and basic care of their installed systems.
Qualifications
Required qualifications
  • 2+ years of elevator, stairlift, or related electromechanical installation/repair experience
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical blueprints
  • Working knowledge of ASME A17.1, A18.1, and applicable local codes
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work in confined spaces, at heights, and in crawl spaces
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
Preferred qualifications
  • State elevator mechanic license or certification (or active apprenticeship)
  • IUEC or NEIEP training, or completion of an equivalent elevator trade program
  • Factory training from brands such as Savaria, Harmar, Bruno, ThyssenKrupp, or Stiltz
  • Experience with PLC-based control systems and variable frequency drives
  • Basic carpentry or finish work skills for hoistway trim and finishing
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
