Description
This is routine inspection and mechanical work in the operation and maintenance of lift stations. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Collections Supervisor. Work includes participation in on-call rotation and after hour response to utility service disruptions.
Essential Job Duties
  • Conducts a regular preventative maintenance program in regard to lift stations and equipment.
  • Makes visual inspections of stations to determine proper repair, servicing, and routine maintenance work on mechanical apparatus, such as pumps, motors, generators, and control panels.
  • Dismantles and cleans valves and check valves, repairs and maintains float control systems, greases and oils equipment.
  • Troubleshoots electrical failures to determine necessary action.
  • Maintains lift stations keeping pad clean, mowing, weed eating, and trimming bushes as needed.
  • Deploys mobile generators or pumps trailering with a service truck
  • Participates in the on-call rotation to respond to after-hours calls
  • When not on call, responds to after-hours events to support significant utility service disruptions.
  • Performs other job functions as required.

Typical Requirements
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED supplemented by 4 years of experience working on electrical control panels, pumps, motors, generators, and related equipment.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:
  • Must possess or obtain within the first 18 months of employment a valid Florida Restricted Class "A" Commercial Driver's License.
  • Individuals who are hired into this position must obtain their Class "C" and "B" Wastewater Collections certifications within six months of attaining the hands-on service hours experience that is required for each certification.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:
  • Basic knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC) including high voltage (120/277/480V) systems, low voltage (<28V AC and 12VDC) control systems, and all associated electrical safety requirements (arc flash protection, Lock out Tag Out, etc..).
  • Knowledge of the methods, practices, tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair and maintenance work.
  • Knowledge of the hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to mechanical maintenance and repair work.
  • Knowledge of the operation of pumps.
  • Knowledge of electricity as related to electric motors and pumps.
  • Ability to inspect machinery and mechanical equipment and detect apparatus malfunctions.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Work is performed outside in varying weather conditions with dust, chemicals, grease, oils, uneven surfaces, and electricity.
