Job description

Job Title: Assisted Living Cook

Position Summary:
The Cook is responsible for preparing, cooking, and serving meals to residents in an assisted living community. The Cook ensures meals are nutritious, well-balanced, visually appealing, and meet residents' dietary needs and preferences while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook meals according to menus, recipes, and dietary requirements.

  • Ensure all meals are served on time and at the proper temperature.

  • Modify meals to accommodate special dietary needs (e.g., diabetic, low-sodium, pureed diets).

  • Maintain food safety and sanitation standards according to health regulations.

  • Assist with meal planning and food ordering as needed.

  • Keep kitchen, equipment, and dining areas clean and organized.

  • Store food properly to prevent spoilage.

  • Monitor inventory and assist in minimizing food waste.

  • Communicate with the dining staff, caregivers, and management regarding residents' meal preferences and needs.

  • Participate in special events or themed meals.

  • Follow all policies regarding safety, infection control, and company protocols.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • Previous experience cooking in a healthcare, assisted living, or similar environment preferred.

  • Knowledge of basic nutrition and special diets.

  • Ability to lift up to 25-50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and work in a fast-paced environment.

  • ServSafe certification (or ability to obtain upon hire) is a plus.

  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
