Job description

At Corbion, we exist to champion preservation in all its forms, preserving food and food production, health, and our planet.

The Production Operator is based at the Totowa, NJ plant.  This position will work directly on the production and warehouse floor to complete tasks related to machine operation, batch production, kitting, staging, safety and other related tasks as needed.  There are second shift (2PM - 10:30PM) and 3rd shift (10PM - 6:30AM) positions available. 

Essential Functions

  • Follow all GMP's (Good Manufacturing Practices), Safety, and Environmental regulations as well as company policies.
  • Responsible for product quality while maintaining standards and processes.
  • Operate blender and kettle machines while maintaining a positive, clean and safe working environment.
  • Weighing out various types of raw materials less than a full pack size according to formula. This entails using a scoop to transfer weight from one container to another.
  • Staging ingredients for work center operators that convert ingredients into functional blends for the customer.
  • Perform boxes and bags for palletizing.
  • May be trained to operate a forklift.
  • Maintain a positive attitude. Focus on the customer, teamwork, and quality productivity. 
  • Complete production reports to identify problems and maximize productivity.
  • Attend regular team meetings which include effective communication of organizational and policy changes.
  • Adhere to Lean Process Control Board procedures to ease communication at shift changes.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Preferred one (1+) plus year manufacturing experience, preferably in a batch maker, mixer, or blender role
  • High School Diploma or its equivalent
  • Lean Process understanding preferred
  • Willingness to work second or third shift with occasional weekend shifts
  • Understanding of union policies and procedures

Required Licenses/Certifications:  None

Working Environment: 

  • Manufacturing plant is large, open floor areas with loud machinery, requiring some areas for workers to wear ear protection to guard against noise.
  • Workers may be exposed to elevated temperatures during the summer months; and some work may be required in cold environments during winter months.
  • Workers are required to wear GMP compliant hair and beard nets, company-provided uniforms, and gloves to protect the product from possible contamination. Certain areas require respirators.
  • In this position, you may be exposed to common airborne or surface food allergens-including, but not limited to, wheat, soy, eggs, dairy, and sesame-during the handling, mixing, storage, transport of materials, or when accessing the production floor.

Physical Requirements:

  • Workers usually stand for the majority of their shifts. Frequently lift a maximum of 55-pound units (boxes/bags). 
  • Climbing, balancing stooping, crouching, crawling, standing, walking, pulling, pushing, lifting overhead, use of fingers, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
  • Corrected vision, speaking ability, and hearing are usually involved in performing written and verbal job functions.

This position is covered under a collective bargaining agreement. Compensation and other terms and conditions of employment are subject to the provisions of that agreement. Please note, pay rates and compensation programs may be modified in the future based on business needs, policy updates, or union negotiations, as applicable. The compensation for this position is a fixed hourly rate of $22.00 per hour. In addition to the base rate, shift differentials apply as follows: $1.10 per hour for second shift and $ 1.65 per hour for third shift.
