Job description

Job Title: MRB Engineer

Exempt Status: Exempt

Location: Cheshire, CT

Company Description:

Hanwha Aerospace USA has long been recognized as a leader in the development and supply of flight critical Aerospace/Defense components and assemblies. Operating out of four state-of-the-art facilities located in Connecticut, Hanwha Aerospace USA offers growth and career development opportunities to enrich your talents.

Summary:

The MRB Engineer is responsible for leading the end-to-end management of all nonconforming materials, from initial identification and investigation through disposition, repair/rework, and final acceptance. The role ensures that MRB activities are properly documented, traceable, and compliant with internal procedures, customer requirements, and applicable industry standards.

Essential Functions:

  • MRB Engineer is responsible for leading, organizing, and executing all activities related to the Material Review Board (MRB) process.
  • Ensure all MRB dispositions (use-as-is, rework, repair, scrap) are properly documented, approved by authorized personnel, and compliant with internal procedures and customer/industry requirements.
  • Partner with Quality Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, and Production to support investigations, determine root causes, and help drive corrective and preventive actions for recurring or systemic nonconformances.
  • Track, monitor, and report MRB metrics, including volume, financial impact, historical trends, closure rates, and disposition cycle time; identify and escalate risks or patterns requiring further review.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to control of nonconforming product, containment processes, documentation flow, and cross-departmental communication.
  • Maintain full traceability of reworked or repaired materials from identification through final acceptance, ensuring proper documentation is captured at every stage.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain teams to communicate supplier-related nonconformances, initiate and track return-to-vendor (RTV) actions, and ensure timely supplier responses when applicable.
  • The “hands-on” aspect of the role will be providing original content with respect to repair development activities that demands a higher level of process knowledge. Many of these repairs will involve “additive” processes such as plating, welding, coating along with complimentary NDT and heat treatments.
  • Author Concession Notifications of Non-conforming Product in Customer Portals.
  • Perform other related duties or responsibilities as requested or required.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Must be a “U.S. Person” as defined by the U.S. Government and able to work without restrictions with ITAR related data
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D (minimum) with 6+ years of relevant experience in aerospace manufacturing, or quality in lieu of advanced degree.

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to interpret policies, procedures, and standard business practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret CAD tooling, component, and assembly drawings.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Products (Word, Office, PP, Excel).
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English at a functional level.
  • Ability to travel 5-10% when required.
  • Ability to perform tolerance stacks, metallurgical, NDT, and heat transfer analysis.
  • Knowledge of high-end manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing support processes and ERP systems, Syteline preferred.
