Status Hourly, Non-Exempt (Eligible for Overtime)

GENERAL PURPOSE
Perform protective and enforcement functions in a courteous and restrained manner in coping with emergencies, undesired conduct, disturbances and threats to life and property to maintain a safe and secure environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Spend majority of shift on foot patrol, walking, climbing stairs of interior and perimeter of the hotel to observe and identify potential security and safety risks and undesirable conditions.
Maintain order in the hotel, support guest wellbeing, and assist guests experiencing room access issues or accidental lockouts.
Coordinate expedient response to emergency conditions such as fire, safety hazards, and threats to life and/or property in a calm, rational and persuasive manner.
Handle undesired conduct and potential violations of hotel policy as warranted for the security and safety of hotel guests, associates, patrons, and property.
Watch for suspicious people entering, exiting, or loitering around the building or parking ramp. Conduct regular walk throughs, observations of entire hotel, while promoting safe work practices.
Answer security telephone and safety hotline calls and respond in a timely manner based on priority.
Observe the security monitors for any unusual activity and in the case of suspicious behavior and/or alarms, report directly to the supervisor on duty.
Accept, log, and maintain custody of guest packages and facilitate timely package retrieval by transporting requested items to the Front Desk for guest collection.
Monitor life safety system installed at property including layout of entire building, alarm pull stations, location of fire extinguishers and sprinklers.
No Travel Required
Hours: 40-45 hours per week
OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform special projects and other responsibilities as assigned.
SUPERVISORY DUTIES - None
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Previous security experience required; hospitality security experience preferred.
Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Knowledge
Life safety certified with AED/CPR, first responder preferred but not required.
Skills
Excellent communication skills are required for verbal interaction with guests and associates.
Strong customer service skills are required, while exemplifying a professional appearance and positive demeanor at all times.
Abilities
Position requires prolonged standing, bending, stooping, kneeling and walking significant distances between the buildings on the property.
Ability to grasp, lift and/or carry or otherwise move good weight a maximum of 150 pounds.
Ability to climb stairs and ladders at a rapid pace.
Sufficient manual dexterity in hands such as grasping, lifting and or carrying or otherwise moving packages, luggage, wheelchairs and safety equipment.
Effectively use hearing and visual observation skills to identify, assess, and respond to emergency and safety-related situations.
Ability to effectively communicate speaking, listening, and writing in English.
Environment
Work in an active hotel environment requiring regular interaction with diverse populations and occasional exposure to challenging situations that may impact the safety and security of guests, employees and hotel operations.
Work environment includes frequent use of computer systems, security monitoring equipment, radios, telephones, and other technology while maintaining awareness of hotel operations and surroundings.
Inside approximately 90%, outside approximately 10%, which could include abnormal temperatures - extreme summer heat and extreme winter cold.
