Job description

The Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa is a luxury property within the Woodside Hotel Group collection. This 290 room property has four penthouse suites, over 17,000 square feet of meeting space, expansive exterior space known as the Plaza, the Promenade and the Terrace, and an award-winning food and beverage program. Banquets, Schooners Coastal Kitchen and Bar, Helmsman Lounge, Tidal Coffee, and Room Service provide guests, groups, and local visitors numerous dining options. Vista Blue Spa offers a wide array of services in an outstanding location on the penthouse suite level and hosts the Fitness Center in addition to retail and sundries. The Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa is the only Forbes 4-Star property in Monterey, which it has earned annually since 2009, and the only property ranked No. 1 for both business and leisure by Trip Advisor in Monterey.

We are seeking a Security Officer to join our team.
Our Security Officers are focused on protecting our guests, associates and hotel at all times. They perform protective and enforcement functions in a courteous and professional manner, handle emergencies, undesired conduct, disturbances and threats of life and property. Their mission is to maintain a safe and secure environment for everyone to enjoy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responds to and investigates complaints, accidents, thefts, property loss and unlawful activities.
  • Spends the majority of shift patrolling the interior and the perimeter of the Hotel to observe and identify potential security and safety risks or undesirable conditions.
  • Follow all safety, hygiene and cleanliness protocols at all times.
  • Responds immediately to life threatening emergencies and follows proper emergency procedures.
  • Responds immediately to all sounding alarms and follows proper emergency procedures.
  • Regularly communicates with PBX and other departments via two-way radio.
  • Promptly answers the Security Office telephone within three rings using the correct daytime greeting and proper telephone etiquette.
  • Communicate details of any incident to Management immediately.
  • Interacts with all guests and associates in a friendly, courteous and professional manner.
  • Watches for suspicious persons entering and exiting the property or loitering around the building.
  • Distributes Hotel keys and maintains key inventory.
  • Ensures all Security Officer's administrative tasks are accurately completed by the end of the shift.
  • Writes clear and concise reports, which include all relevant facts, follow up investigations and general information.
  • Reports are to be completed by the end of the shift. Monitors entrance and exit of vendors, visitors, and contractors and off duty associates.
  • Provides information to the Guest regarding the Hotel and its services, such as outlets hours, local attractions, etc.
  • Completes a shift log report, entering all pertinent information from his/her shift.
  • At the beginning of the shift reviews the logbook, memos and the daily function sheet.
  • Interrogates persons to detect infringements and investigates disturbances, complaints, thefts, vandalism, and accidents.
  • Assists Management and Enforcement Officers in emergency situations and follows all Hotel emergency procedures.
  • Delivers and places guest folios under the guestroom door for guests who are scheduled to check out. (During the graveyard shift.)
  • Ensures all Hotel policies and procedures are enforced.
  • Assists in performing Bell, Housekeeping, Valet and Engineering duties.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established by the Hotel from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. Associates with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination.
Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, associates may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the Hotel.
Upon employment, all associates are required to fully comply with the Hotel rules and regulations for the safe and efficient operation of the facility.

  • Read, write and speak English fluently.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • The ability to effectively deal with customers some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy to diffuse anger.
  • Able to identify liability and take action.
  • Able to establish a good working relationship with emergency services, guests, peers and visitors.
  • Ability to interpret all incident reports, as well as a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Able to operate the Hotel van and/or electrical carts.
  • Meets legal age requirements for the position.

CERTIFICATES/LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS
Must have a valid California Driver License. CPR/First-Aid certification is required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma is preferred. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or any other combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities. One-year prior Security experience is preferred.

PAY SCALE
