Hot Shot information
What is a hot shot?
A hot shot job involves the expedited transport of freight. As a hot shot truck driver, you often haul much smaller loads than a standard trucker. You typically drive a one-ton diesel truck with a gooseneck trailer in this field. The lighter load and truck are crucial, as your freight requires express delivery. Full-sized semi-trucks are unable to meet the demands of some customers, as their size and slow speed limit them. Some hot shot drivers work as company drivers, while others work on a freelance basis and own or lease their trucks.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a hot shot driver?
What are some common challenges hot shot drivers face when managing urgent deliveries?
What is the difference between Hot Shot vs Delivery Driver?
| Aspect | Hot Shot | Delivery Driver |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials/Certifications | Commercial Driver's License (CDL) often required | Driver's license, sometimes specific to vehicle type |
| Work Environment | On-demand, often urgent freight, often in trucks or vans | Scheduled routes, local or long-distance deliveries |
| Employer & Industry Usage | Logistics, freight, construction, manufacturing | Retail, food service, courier services |
| Search & Comparison Intent | Urgent freight, specialized trucking | Routine deliveries, courier jobs |
Hot Shot drivers typically handle urgent freight requiring specialized trucks and often need a CDL, working in logistics or construction industries. Delivery drivers usually perform scheduled deliveries, often with standard vehicles, in retail or courier sectors. The main difference lies in the urgency and type of freight handled.
