NMC is currently recruiting a Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) in the Progressive Care Unit, day shift. The position is full-time (72 hours bi-weekly), generally 7a-7:30p & every other weekend. Licensed Nursing Assistant
JOB SUMMARY:
The LNA plans and implements assigned patient care in collaboration with the nursing staff on the unit. The LNA provides direct patient care for patients of all age groups under a wide variety of circumstances, including patient sitting/care companion and documents patient information. The LNA will also provide support on the assigned unit that may include reception and clerical functions while interacting professionally with staff to facilitate a healing environment for staff, patients, families and visitors. After training the LNA will perform EKG's and phlebotomy procedures as necessary.
PRE-REQUISITES:
Education: High school graduate or equivalent with a current licensure as a Licensed Nursing Assistant in the State of Vermont.
Experience: Experience as a LNA in a hospital setting preferred. Computer experience required. Phlebotomy and ECG experience preferred.
Certifications: BLS required
Other: Knowledge of basic medical terminology. Communicates clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing. Has the ability to organize and prioritize multiple competing demands. Has an approachable, friendly demeanor.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports To: Clinical Nurse Supervisor; Director of Inpatient Services
Other Contacts: Staff on the unit, nursing personnel, Shift Administrators, Providers and their office staff, patients and patient's families, public, police and other forensic staff and other hospital employees
SCOPE:
Machinery or Equipment Used: All basic office and patient care/monitoring equipment
Physical Demands: Lifts, positions and/or transfers patients; pushes, moves and lifts heavy equipment/supplies; considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching; prolonged extensive or considerable standing/walking; manual dexterity in using office equipment
Working Conditions: Exposure to crisis or hostile situations, infectious diseases/blood borne pathogens, and/or unpleasant elements of acute injuries from traumatic accidents as well as working with family members in their time of stress. Possible stress from emergency situation and multiple interruptions
Required Protective Equipment: All PPE per policy as situation and patient situation dictates
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Manages self and resources effectively.
  • Acknowledge limits of experience and capabilities

  • Ensures traffic control in "sensitive areas"
  • Requests assistance appropriately

2. Communicates with patients, team members, and management in an accurate and timely manner evidenced by:
  • Talks with and listens to patients/team members
  • Reports pertinent, concise information
  • Complete timely clinical documentation
  • Protects confidentiality of patient/colleagues

3. Performs basic care to patients under the guidance of the nursing staff:
  • Performs bedside point of care testing accurately and according to policies and procedures and reports results to appropriate staff member
  • Obtains patient vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, weight, respiration, oxygen saturation and pulse. Reports findings to nursing staff.
  • Provides personal care to patients, including hygiene, feeding, toileting, and ambulating
  • Performs phlebotomy and ECG procedures as necessary

4. Demonstrates the unit specific skills requisite for unit/patient population served

  • Performs clerical duties as needed to support staff and patients
  • Checks and maintains equipment, checks, stocks and orders supplies, and manages outdates

6. Provides clerical support to staff, providers and patients as required:
  • Utilizes electronic and paper systems to provide efficient and quality service to the stakeholders
  • Maintains completeness of the EMR for the unit specific needs

7. Completes safety companion training and serves in this capacity as needed while also assisting with restraint application and care as outlined in NMC's Policy and Protocol, and maintain seizure precautions.
  • Responds to codes appropriately and adheres to Infection Control Policy and Protocols
