Job Title: Hospital Controller – Acute Care Facility
Location: U.S.
Department: Finance
Reports To: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)


Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Hospital Controller to lead and manage the financial operations of our acute care facility. The Controller will be responsible for overseeing financial reporting, technical accounting, and internal controls, while ensuring the integrity of financial information and compliance with healthcare regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in process improvement, team leadership, and hospital financial operations.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis

    • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

    • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and healthcare industry regulations.

    • Analyze variances between actual results and budget/forecast and provide actionable insights to leadership.

  • Technical Accounting & Compliance

    • Maintain and ensure the integrity of accounting systems, chart of accounts, and financial policies.

    • Manage all aspects of technical accounting, including revenue recognition, capital assets, and third-party reimbursements.

    • Ensure compliance with Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement rules and other regulatory requirements.

  • Team Leadership & Development

    • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of accounting and finance professionals.

    • Promote a culture of accountability, high performance, and continuous improvement.

    • Provide coaching and career development opportunities to direct reports.

  • Process Improvement & Internal Controls

    • Evaluate and improve accounting processes to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls.

    • Develop and document policies and procedures to support strong governance and risk management.

    • Implement automation and technology enhancements to streamline workflows and reduce manual tasks.

  • Budgeting & Forecasting Support

    • Assist in the annual budgeting process, including coordination with department leaders.

    • Support long-range financial planning and cash flow management.

    • Participate in strategic initiatives, mergers/acquisitions, and system implementations as needed.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required); CPA or Master’s degree (preferred).

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a healthcare or hospital environment.

  • Strong knowledge of hospital finance, reimbursement, and cost accounting in an acute care setting.

  • Demonstrated experience in establishing financial processes and internal controls.

  • Proven track record of managing and developing a finance team.

  • Proficient with financial systems (e.g., Meditech, Epic, Lawson, Oracle, or similar ERP platforms).

  • Advanced Excel skills and solid analytical capabilities.

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
