How much do honing jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 23, 2026, the average hourly pay for honing in the United States is $26.12, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $24.04 and $28.12 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some common challenges faced by honing machine operators, and how can they be addressed?

Honing machine operators often encounter challenges such as maintaining tight tolerances, ensuring consistent surface finishes, and managing tool wear. To address these issues, operators must regularly inspect and calibrate their equipment, pay close attention to process parameters, and perform routine maintenance on honing stones. Effective communication with quality control and maintenance teams is also crucial to quickly resolve any issues and keep production running smoothly.

What jobs pay $500,000 a year in the US?

High-paying jobs that can reach or exceed $500,000 annually include roles such as senior corporate executives, investment bankers, specialized surgeons, and successful entrepreneurs. These positions often require advanced degrees, extensive experience, and skills in leadership, finance, or medicine, and may involve long hours and high stress levels.

Why were 92,000 jobs lost?

Honing, as a skill or job role, is not directly associated with large-scale job losses. The 92,000 jobs lost likely refer to broader economic or industry-specific layoffs unrelated to honing skills, which typically involve sharpening or refining tools or materials. Job losses of this scale often result from economic downturns, automation, or industry shifts rather than specific roles like honing.

What is the difference between Honing vs Grinding?

AspectHoningGrinding
Primary PurposeRefines bore or internal surfaces for precision and smoothnessRemoves material to shape or size a workpiece, often for external surfaces
Work EnvironmentMachine shops, manufacturing plants, precision engineeringMachine shops, manufacturing, metalworking industries
Required CertificationsTypically no formal certification, but precision machining skills are commonSimilar; skills in machining and tool operation
Common UsesAchieving tight tolerances and smooth internal finishesShaping, sizing, and finishing external or internal parts

Honing and grinding are both precision machining processes but serve different purposes. Honing is mainly used to improve the internal surface finish and achieve tight tolerances inside bores, while grinding is used to remove material and shape external or internal surfaces. Both roles are common in manufacturing environments requiring high precision.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Honing Machine Operator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Honing Machine Operator, you need strong mechanical aptitude, precision measurement skills, and typically a high school diploma or vocational training. Familiarity with honing machines, micrometers, calipers, and relevant safety certifications are commonly required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication help ensure quality output and coordination with team members. These skills are critical for maintaining tight tolerances, machine efficiency, and workplace safety in manufacturing environments.

What jobs pay 2000 a day?

Jobs related to honing, such as specialized manufacturing or high-level craftsmanship roles, typically do not pay $2000 a day unless they involve highly skilled trades, consulting, or executive positions. Most high-paying jobs in this category require advanced skills, certifications, or experience, and earnings can vary based on project scope and industry demand.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

Honing, which involves precision work such as sharpening tools or blades, typically does not pay $10,000 a month without specialized skills and experience. High-paying jobs that can reach this level often include roles like sales executives, real estate brokers, or entrepreneurs, which rely on skills, networks, and performance rather than formal degrees.

What is honing and what does a honing machine operator do?

Honing is a precision machining process used to improve the geometry, surface finish, and size of metal parts, typically in cylinders or holes. A honing machine operator sets up and runs machines that use abrasive stones or tools to remove small amounts of material, achieving a smooth, accurate surface. This process is commonly used in the automotive, aerospace, and manufacturing industries to ensure parts meet strict tolerances and performance requirements.
