Reporting to the Lead Machinery Mover, Corovan Machinery Moving, Machinery Mover I Driver is responsible for performing machinery move functions as directed by the Lead Machinery Mover and/or Machinery Mover Onsite Supervisor for commercial machinery moves. In addition, this position will require driving trucks up to Class A.
Assists in medium to large-sized and complex machinery moving projects to ensure complete customer satisfaction. Assists with a variety of functions with manual labor tasks as needed, loading, unloading, lifting, and moving machines and equipment, as well as non-machinery related items.
Machinery Mover I Driver is also responsible for reporting and escalating any related issues about the project to Machinery Moving Manager or Lead Machinery Mover, Typically reports to the Machinery Moving Manager, but may be given directions from the Lead Machinery Mover, or Machinery Mover On-Site Supervisor/Driver.
SSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Project Assignments (On-site):
โ€ข Checks for start time (for next day's work schedule) with dispatch daily.
โ€ข Obtains daily work assignments from Lead Machinery Mover.
โ€ข Arrives at Corovan dispatch office (or on-site), in complete uniform every day.
โ€ข Manipulate rigging lines, hoists, and pulling gear to move or support materials such as heavy equipment or airplanes.
โ€ข Attach pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms, using bolts and clamps.
โ€ข Before every job, tests rigging to ensure safety and reliability.
โ€ข Dismantle and store rigging equipment after use.
โ€ข Select gear such as cables, pulleys, and winches, according to load weights and sizes, facilities, and work schedules.
โ€ข Knows and understands road and weight restrictions and surface restrictions to ensure compliance and safety.
โ€ข Properly loads and unloads trucks using forklifts, cranes or using ramps or on lift-gates to protect goods being moved and supervises others doing the same.
โ€ข Handles and stages machines, performs detail work, anchoring & leveling and trash-out functions on machinery projects.
โ€ข Control movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces, using chain falls, gin poles, gallows frames and other equipment.
Driver duties:
โ€ข Must maintain valid commercial driver's license and be qualified and approved driver under company insurance standards.
โ€ข Drives trucks to customer jobsite up to and including Class A vehicles.
โ€ข Must follow the procedure and complete the Vehicle Inspection Form if driving company vehicles and is enrolled in the DMV Pull-Notice program.
โ€ข Performs pre-trip check and safely drives vehicles up to and including, Class A tractor-trailer and Class C bobtails.
Customer Relations:
โ€ข Must be courteous, helpful, and professional to all existing and potential customers.
โ€ข Follow all confidentiality rules regarding any products or services that you see at a customer's move site.
Engagement:
โ€ข Ensure interactions with crew and customers are always professional to promote company's values and expectations.
Safety:
โ€ข Visually inspecting rigging equipment to ensure safety and reliability.
โ€ข Performs work with quality, efficiency, and safety at all times to include proper safety equipment PPE, drive forklifts safely.
โ€ข Participate in daily safety briefings (safety huddles) with crew, at the beginning of each job, to be in compliance with company policy.
โ€ข Report all safety concerns immediately to operations team.
โ€ข Other duties: If also a qualified and approved driver, drives trucks up to and including Class A vehicles. Must follow the procedure and complete the Vehicle Inspection Form if driving company vehicles.
โ€ข Follow all confidentiality rules regarding any products or services that you see at a customer's move site.
โ€ข Follow all security rules for the company and assigned customers.
โ€ข Must be respectful of rules at each customer site as to where to work, and adhere to meal and rest period policy.
โ€ข Promote Corovan's Mission and Vision Statements, including promoting compliance with company policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
COMPETENCIES:
1. LANGUAGE SKILLS - Ability to read and interpret documents written in English such as procedures, work instructions, technical documents and timesheets. Must efficiently communicate with customer and coworkers.
2. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to read and correctly interpret the legend on installation drawings and read both standard and metric tape measures.
3. REASONING ABILITY - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
4. OTHER DUTIES:
a. Problem solving and strong decision-making skills.
b. Must be familiar with basic systems machinery and its movement and placement.
c. Must be able to produce detailed inventories of all goods exposed to on machinery moving projects.
d. Preferably be able to accurately estimate any sized machinery move to determine manpower, trucks, and equipment necessary to complete the tasks.
e. Must be qualified to do complex machinery of heavy and bulky machines in accordance with Cal OSHA standards with regards to pre-inspection of equipment, safe operating practices, material handling and use.
f. Must complete Driver I and II Level Corovan University training and pass all the written tests.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Required:
1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Active Class A commercial vehicle license and medical card, and a valid driving record that meets the company's insurance carrier's requirements.
3. One (2) to three (3) years' experience in commercial machinery preferably in commercial moving industry.
4. Certified forklift operator license required for the equipment being used.
5. Must be enrolled in the DMV Pull-Notice program.
6. One (1) to two (2) years' experience in rigging in construction or similar industry.
Preferred:
1. Experience driving with Class A license in a commercial environment.
2. NCCCO Machinery Mover certification.
PRIMARY LOCATION:
Orange County Branch, but will be servicing Southern California customers in Company Truck.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Individuals are required to be able to sit or stand for long periods as needed throughout the day.
1. Walking: May require walking primarily on a level surface but may include walking on uneven or inclined surfaces for lengthy periods throughout the day, often up and down stairs.
2. Handling: Seizes, helps, or works with hands.
3. Lifting: Proper lifting techniques required. May include lifting up to 75 pounds and pushing or pulling up to 150 pounds throughout the day. May also include climbing or descending stairs while carrying goods up to 50 pounds.
4. Reaching: Extends hands and arms in any direction, reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting as required.
5. Standing: Remains in standing position if required to perform various functions of the job.
6. Stooping: Bends body downward and forward by bending at knees or waist.
7. Vision: Reads paperwork.
8. Talking: Communications by phone, email, text and in person.
9. Sitting: May sit at desk. May sit for long periods of time.
10. May include bending, reaching, squatting, twisting, stooping, and kneeling throughout the day.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing, assembly and construction areas and under certain conditions require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, safety glasses with side shields and/or hearing protection. This list is not all inclusive.
1. Temp/Weather: Works in either 1) Office environment - for the most part ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment, and 2) Warehouse - may be exposed to hot or cold temperature, and construction zones, 3) Outside - may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather conditions and hot or cold.
2. Noise: Works in office, warehouse, construction zones or outside environment, with constant or intermittent noise.
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:
1. Hourly, full time non-exempt, regular position.
2. Employees might be required to work late evenings or weekends depending on the business needs.
3. All Overtime must be approved by manager before working.
4. Must be able to work 7 days a week including holidays.
TRAVEL:
This position requires 90% of time to travel around the local Southern California area; percent may increase depending upon customer assignment.
