Job description

This position reviews, underwrites and ensures accuracy and completeness of loan documentation of consumer home equity loans and home equity lines of credit generated by Bell Bank locations according to Bell Bank policy.
Responsibilities:
  • Following prescribed guidelines, receive and review loan applications and associated documentation to insure thoroughness and accuracy.
  • Underwrite all home equity loans and home equity lines of credit to ensure compliance regulations are met.
  • Underwrite all consumer loans to ensure compliance and Bell Bank guidelines are being met.
  • Underwrite each individual request with creativity in an attempt to find terms under which that request can be approved when at all possible.
  • Verify loan-to-value ratios, completeness of application information and review credit reports
  • Verify debt-to-income ratios by calculating and confirming monthly income via income documents provided
  • Work directly with the loan officer on obtaining required documentation for verification of information provided by the customer.
  • Analyze credit reports and associated documentation, qualify and classify loans according to Bell Bank guidelines.
  • Review appraisals to comply with Bell Bank guidelines.
  • Maintain acceptable turnaround times for applications submitted for approval.
  • Interact with appropriate departments regarding problem resolution, risk evaluation and compliance concerns as needed.
  • Follow lending limits as outlined in loan policy, adhering to loan committee policy.
  • Review all retail home equity loan files to ensure the documentation is accurate. Contact loan officer or processor for any additional documentation required to properly complete the underwriting review.
  • Monitor and report to retail underwriting manager the performance of loan officers and processors on files submitted to the underwriter.
  • Work with loan servicing staff to keep them informed of changes in the loan request.

Education, Experience, and Other Expectations:
  • Minimum three years of lending experience.
  • Thorough understanding of home equity underwriting guidelines, real estate compliance regulations and a general understanding of processing and closing function of the entire real estate lending process.

Skills and Knowledge:
  • Detail oriented with the ability to make decisions based on facts presented and guidelines established.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly across all lines of business while handling multiple priorities
