Home Based Serious Game Developer information

How does a home based serious game developer typically collaborate with remote teams and clients?

As a home-based serious game developer, effective collaboration with remote teams and clients is crucial. You'll often use tools like Slack, Zoom, and project management platforms (e.g., Trello or Jira) to communicate progress, share assets, and receive feedback. Regular virtual meetings and clear documentation are standard practices to ensure everyone is aligned, especially since serious games often require input from subject matter experts, designers, and educators. Building strong digital communication skills and being proactive in seeking clarification or proposing solutions will help you thrive in this distributed work environment.

What is a home based serious game developer?

Home Based Serious Game Developers are professionals who design, create, and program serious games—games intended for purposes beyond entertainment, such as education, training, or healthcare—while working remotely from their homes. They use their skills in game design, coding, and user experience to develop interactive applications that can teach, train, or solve real-world problems. Working from home allows them to collaborate with teams online, manage their own schedules, and contribute to projects for clients or organizations worldwide.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a home based serious game developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Home Based Serious Game Developer, you need strong programming skills (such as C# or JavaScript), knowledge of game design principles, and experience with educational or training content. Familiarity with game engines like Unity or Unreal Engine, as well as version control systems like Git, is typically required, and certifications in game development or instructional design can be beneficial. Creativity, self-motivation, and effective remote communication skills help individuals excel in this independent and collaborative role. These skills ensure the creation of engaging, effective serious games that meet client objectives and learning outcomes while maintaining productivity in a remote setting.

Job description

Overview We are seeking a GNC Engineer with real-time programming experience to support development of 6 degree of freedom (6DOF) missile simulations for use in a hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) environment. The candidate will perform software development related to missile simulation implementation, hardware initialization and control, data processing, analysis, and visualization. This role requires practical experience in C and C++ software development on Linux platforms, along with an understanding of missile dynamics, physics-based simulation, and numerical methods. The candidate will be expected to support execution of real-time 6DOF simulations, perform independent studies of missile performance, and present concepts and results to project engineers and technical working groups. Pay Range $125,000 - 203,000 The pay range for this position is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, geographic location, and any applicable laws. Responsibilities * Develop, integrate, and maintain 6DOF GNC simulations for missile and flight vehicle applications in a real-time HWIL environment. * Implement simulation software for guidance, navigation, and control algorithms, missile dynamics, subsystem behavior, and engagement scenarios. * Support hardware initialization and control, data handling, analysis, and visualization associated with HWIL simulation execution. * Perform engineering analysis and system performance studies using simulation outputs to assess vehicle behavior, algorithm performance, and mission effectiveness. * Build and maintain simulation execution workflows, including configuration management, automated scenario execution, data capture, and regression support. * Create tools and utilities to run scenarios, log results, process data, and generate engineering reports and presentations. * Work in Linux development environments, including command-line compilation, remote connectivity, and software integration activities. * Collaborate with systems, software, and test teams to translate requirements into simulation capabilities and verification coverage. * Present technical concepts, findings, and recommendations to internal engineering teams and customer technical working groups. Qualifications * Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in Engineering; Aerospace Engineering preferred but not required. * Minimum five (5) years of engineering experience related to programming, simulation development, or system performance analysis. * Strong experience in C and C++ development, preferably in Linux environments. * Working knowledge of real-time simulations in a hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) environment. * Experience with programming for engineering analysis and simulation-based performance assessment. * General knowledge of flight vehicle dynamics, subsystem function, and 6DOF execution concepts. * General knowledge of physics-based simulation and numerical methods. * Working knowledge of Linux environments, including command-line operations, compiling from the command line, and remote system connectivity. * Experience using version control tools such as Git. * Strong written and verbal communication skills. * Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Nice to have * Experience with Common Simulation Framework (CSF). * Experience with RedHawk Linux or other real-time Linux environments. * Experience writing or contributing to technical reports, briefings, and engineering presentations. * Familiarity with scientific and simulation visualization tools such as MATLAB and SIMDIS. * Experience supporting missile simulation, flight dynamics modeling, or GNC algorithm development in laboratory or HWIL settings. * Familiarity with automated test execution, data reduction, and simulation result visualization workflows.
