Responsibilities:
- Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care in order to achieve optimum patient outcomes for patients as appropriate to service area.
- Admission and ongoing assessments are completed, documented and used to develop a plan of care.
- Collaborates with members of the health care team/patient/family to develop, implement, and evaluate interdisciplinary plan of care. Revises plan according to changes in patient status.
- Administers treatments and medications for patients and documents utilizing automated computer systems, including electronic medical records.
- Identifies patient/family (caregiver) educational needs, incorporates into care plan.
- Contributes to Carilion Clinic's performance improvement activities.
- Supports the patient as patient advocate, protector of patient's rights, and provider of psychological/social/cultural support. Facilitates resolution between patient and staff if needed.
- Determines and performs within clinical, leadership, and/or education pathways to support (direct/indirect) evidenced based, quality patient care service and performance improvement.
- Utilizes clinical expertise in rapidly changing circumstances.
- Strategizes to reduce patient length of stay, turnaround time, resource consumption and improve patient outcomes.
- Functions as role model for clinical practice to coworker, students, and physicians.
- Manages resources, establishes priorities, and modifies environment to meet patient care needs.
- Orientes new employees. Provides feedback to staff
- Provides input into practice, environment, and work issues by participating on unit, hospital, and/or system activities which facilitates staff participation/input in decision making.
- Assists with providing education activities for unit/department.
What We Require:
Education: Graduate of a State Board of Nursing approved program required.
Experience: None.
Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration: Current Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Virginia required or eligibility to obtain licensure required.
Life Support: AHA BLS-HCP required. Additional certifications such as ACLS, PALS, or NRP may be required based on assigned work area.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Keyboarding skills and computer literacy required, including use of electronic medical records. For Behavioral Health roles, de-escalation training must be completed within 1 year of hire and maintained. For OB/GYN roles, EFM NCC certification required per department policy.
Career Advancement Program: RNs are eligible to participate in the Career Advancement Program (CAP) to attain various levels of advancement based on performance criteria.

Compensation Range: $33.52 - $50.28
Employee pay is based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. The compensation range does not include benefits or pension plan.
