Job description

Tulsa, OK-Based · Rotational Travel (21/7)
Location: Tulsa-based / extensive travel to project & drilling sites
Job Type: Full-Time · Rotational (Travel)
Pay: $25-$40/hr — based on experience and certifications
Schedule: 21/7 rotation — 21 days on, then 7 days off at home
A Note on the Role
At AIMRIGHT, the Field Logger is the member of our field crews who documents subsurface exploration and construction materials testing — logging soil borings, describing and classifying soils, recording test data, and collecting samples in the field. In the geotechnical and testing industry, this work is also known as a geotechnical field technician, materials field technician, soils logger, or drilling logger — the terms candidates most often search. We use “Field Logger” because it reflects the core of the job: producing the accurate, reliable field logs and records our engineers depend on.
Job Description
AIMRIGHT Testing & Engineering is seeking a Field Logger to support field work across our geotechnical and construction materials testing projects. In this role you will monitor field explorations and construction activities, log borings and test data, collect and document samples, and prepare accurate daily field reports for the engineers and project teams who rely on them.
This is a travel-based, rotational position built around a 21/7 schedule — three weeks on the road followed by a full week off at home (see Work Schedule below). It is a field-first, hands-on role ideal for someone who is dependable, detail-oriented, comfortable working outdoors at active construction and drilling sites, and able to spend extended stretches away from home. It is also a strong entry point into the testing and engineering industry, with clear paths to certification and advancement for those who show they can own the details.
This is a deployable position. When Field Loggers are not deployed on a rotation, they may be reassigned to local field work and/or office assignments as needed.
Why This Role Exists
Accurate field data is the foundation of everything AIMRIGHT delivers. When a boring is logged correctly, a soil is classified accurately, and a sample is collected and documented properly, our engineers can make sound recommendations and our clients can make confident decisions. This role exists to make sure that foundation is solid — that what happens in the field is captured completely, correctly, and on time.
Key Responsibilities
  • Accompany drill crews and field teams to log soil borings and subsurface explorations — record depths and sampling intervals, capture SPT blow counts, and describe and classify soils in the field in accordance with ASTM / USCS procedures.
  • Monitor field explorations and construction activities related to AIMRIGHT's testing and engineering services.
  • Complete detailed, accurate field notes and boring logs, and prepare daily field reports promptly.
  • Collect, label, and transport samples (soil, groundwater, aggregate, concrete, etc.) in accordance with established procedures and chain-of-custody requirements.
  • Perform and document construction materials tests as assigned — such as in-place soil density and concrete sampling — using field equipment and instrumentation, including nuclear density gauges.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and safely operate field equipment and instrumentation as specified.
  • Conduct field inspections safely and in accordance with AIMRIGHT health and safety guidelines and site requirements.
  • Coordinate with drillers, site personnel, and project engineers; communicate field conditions and observations clearly.
  • Assist with laboratory testing and sample processing when needed.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned relevant to the achievement of the project's and team's objectives, such as supporting CMT / field engineering work.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record in accordance with AIMRIGHT policy, with at least one year of U.S. driving experience.
  • Ability to interpret technical information and follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills, with reliable, accurate field documentation.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced field environment.
  • Ability to obtain appropriate health, safety, and testing certifications (e.g., Nuclear Density Gauge training, ACI, 40-Hour HAZWOPER) as required for assignments.
  • Must pass a background check and pre-employment drug/alcohol screening.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's degree, technical training, or relevant coursework (geology, civil/construction technology, environmental science, or a related field).
  • One or more years of related field experience in geotechnical, construction materials testing, or environmental work.
  • Familiarity with soil classification (USCS / ASTM), boring logs, and field sampling procedures.
  • Prior experience preparing field reports and logs.
  • Current certifications such as Nuclear Density Gauge, ACI Field Testing Technician Grade I, or HAZWOPER.
What We Offer
  • Competitive Pay based on experience and certifications, plus overtime opportunities.
  • Benefits Package: medical, dental, and vision insurance; paid time off; professional development assistance; 401k with company match.
  • Paid training, certifications & career advancement — we invest in getting our field staff certified and growing.
  • Company vehicle may be provided based on role needs.
  • Stable, growing company with a family-oriented culture.
Physical Requirements
Work is performed primarily outdoors at active construction and drilling sites in varying weather conditions, with time also spent in field offices and the laboratory. The role requires prolonged standing and walking, along with regular bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching. Frequent lifting of up to 35 lbs and occasional lifting or exertion of up to 60 lbs of force is required. Personal protective equipment must be worn on site. Requires communication with internal and external contacts, including speaking and hearing. Participation in AIMRIGHT's safety program, along with a background check and drug/alcohol testing, is required.
Travel Requirements
This is an extensive-travel, on-the-road position. During each rotation, Field Loggers travel to and stay near active project and drilling sites for the full three-week stretch, returning home during the 7-day off period. Assignments are located across AIMRIGHT's nationwide service area (currently Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, and Texas) and are based on project needs. All AIMRIGHT positions require driving; a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record are required. Travel, lodging, and related expenses are provided in accordance with AIMRIGHT policy.
Work Schedule
This role works a 21/7 rotation: 21 days on, followed by 7 consecutive days off. During each rotation. Field hours vary with project and drilling demands, and overtime is common during the on-rotation period.
