What is home based fact checking?

Home based fact checking is a remote job where individuals verify the accuracy of information in articles, reports, or other content from their own home. Fact checkers research claims, consult reliable sources, and ensure that published information is correct and properly cited. This role is essential for media organizations, publishers, and content creators who want to maintain credibility and avoid spreading misinformation. Home based fact checkers typically need strong research, critical thinking, and attention to detail skills, as well as access to trustworthy databases and resources.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a home based fact checker?

To thrive as a Home Based Fact Checker, you need strong research skills, attention to detail, and a background in journalism, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with databases, citation tools, and fact-checking platforms like Snopes or FactCheck.org is often required. Critical thinking, time management, and clear written communication help distinguish top performers in this role. These skills ensure the accuracy and credibility of published content, which is vital for maintaining trust and integrity in media and information dissemination.

What are some common challenges faced by home based fact checkers and how can they be managed?

Home-based fact checkers often encounter challenges such as managing time effectively, staying focused in a remote setting, and accessing credible sources for verification. To address these, setting a structured work schedule, creating a dedicated workspace, and utilizing reputable databases and fact-checking tools are effective strategies. Additionally, regular communication with editors and fellow fact checkers can help clarify information and ensure consistency across projects. Staying updated with best practices in research and verification is also crucial for maintaining accuracy.

Job description

Whether you come from a background in sales, customer service, or roles that require juggling multiple priorities, you can be successful in this role. We don't require a specific degree or experience, but we're looking for translatable skills and relevant expertise. We will provide you with the training and development opportunities needed to build a career here!
About The Role:
As a Home Buying Concierge, you'll work with your team to help make the homebuying journey smoother and less stressful for our borrowers. This role is driven by teamwork-you'll be collaborating with teammates to build a strong culture of support and teamwork. While the loan team handles the mortgage side of things, you'll be the one taking the stress of moving logistics off the borrower's shoulders. Success here means helping borrowers feel supported every step of the way, working closely with our sister companies, and connecting with service providers to make things happen.
With a base salary and commission setup, you're looking at $42,000 to $60,000 in your first year. But here's where it gets exciting - our top earners are hitting $80,000 and beyond, thanks to performance incentives that can propel your earnings higher.
Here's a snapshot of what you'd be doing:
  • Building connections with borrowers (mostly by phone, voicemail, or text) to educate and assist them with the moving process-overall, taking stress off their plate and getting them excited about the homebuying journey!
  • Partnering with teams across the company and external providers to get borrowers the products and services they need.
  • You'll spend much of your day communicating with borrowers by phone, email, and other communication tools. Business calls may be recorded and reviewed using AI-assisted technology to support coaching, quality assurance, compliance, training, and performance evaluation. These technologies may collect, store, and use voiceprints as part of that process.
  • Pitching in wherever needed (excluding licensed tasks) to help foster a supportive and collaborative team culture.

About You:
  • A dedicated work ethic drives everything you do, and you're always ready to go the extra mile.
  • High volumes of interactions don't faze you-you stay organized and focused, no matter what.
  • You excel in fast-paced, results-driven environments, and you thrive when collaborating with a supportive, team-focused group.
  • Providing outstanding customer service comes naturally, and your strong communication skills make it easy to connect with others, whether in person, over the phone, or through email.
  • Adapting to shifting priorities and change feels like second nature, and you're always ready to pivot when needed.
  • You're confident using basic computer technologies and comfortable navigating the tools needed for an internet-based company.
  • Oh, and you show up-reliable, ready to go, and committed to making a difference every day.

About Us:
We're all about helping Veterans and military families become homeowners. In two short decades, we closed over 500,000 VA Loans and became the #1 VA lender for homebuyers in the nation. But to us, success isn't measured in numbers. Our success is measured in living our values every day: Be Passionate and Have Fun, Deliver Results with Integrity and Enhance Lives Every Day. We always strive to provide friendly service to military homebuyers and their families. And we always seek to lift up people and communities across the country.
We're so glad you're here checking out this opportunity! If this role gets you excited but you're worried you don't check every box - don't sweat it. We're more interested in what you can bring to the team than a perfect checklist. If you're passionate, driven, and ready to make a difference, we'd love to hear from you. Come as you are, and together we'll create something amazing.
