Health Educator - Hourly

Center for Student and Community Engagement

JOB SUMMARY:

Working closely with the Assistant Director of the Center for Student and Community Engagement, the Health Educator will be responsible for the development, organization, implementation, evaluation and marketing of various health and wellness promotion programs. This will involve presenting health issues to the campus community, meeting with student groups, and providing leadership to the Peer Health Educators, including recruitment, training and retention of members.

The Health Educator will also support student basic needs initiatives, including the management and day-to-day coordination of the Panther Pantry food pantry and Career Closet. This position will assist with campus-wide events and initiatives that support student engagement, belonging and well-being, including but not limited to Spirit Weekend, Orientation, and other divisional or University programs. Some evening and weekend hours are required.

SALARY INFORMATION:

In compliance with New York's Pay Transparency Act, the hourly rate for this position is $25.

REPORTS TO: Assistant Director of Center for Student and Community Engagement

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  1. Actively manage the training and mentoring of Peer Educators.

  2. Obtain and maintain evaluations of the peer education programs, including statistics and outcomes of all programs.

  3. Actively conduct health and wellness presentations to the campus community with a primary emphasis on students.

  4. Assist with the development, organization, implementation, evaluation and marketing of a comprehensive and effective health and wellness program.

  5. Oversee marketing of various programs, health promotion services and wellness-related resources.

  6. Independently seek creative new programming and ways to increase the visibility of Adelphi Health Services, Health and Wellness initiatives and the Peer Education program.

  7. Maintain an active, relevant and up-to-date Health and Wellness Peer Education website.

  8. Act as a resource person for students and the campus community for relevant and up-to-date health education materials, literature and wellness resources.

  9. Support the management and daily operations of the Panther Pantry food pantry, including inventory, organization, student access, donation coordination, promotion and data tracking as appropriate.

  10. Support the management and daily operations of the Career Closet, including inventory, organization, student access, donation coordination, promotion and data tracking as appropriate.

  11. Assist with campus-wide events and initiatives that promote student engagement, wellness and belonging, including but not limited to Spirit Weekend, Orientation, and other divisional or University programs.

  12. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires flexibility to support student programs, outreach efforts, campus events and basic needs initiatives. Days/times are flexible and will be determined with the supervisor. Some evening and weekend hours are required.

REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  1. Strong skills in project management, public speaking, communication, and collaboration.

  2. Strong writing and presentation skills.

  3. Understanding of, and interest in, concepts of holistic health and/or dimensions of wellness.

  4. Ability to work as a member of a team with professionals from across campus.

  5. Demonstrated ability to think strategically, problem-solve, and make well-informed decisions.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Bachelor's degree with major course work in Health Education or related field is strongly preferred.

  2. Experience in health education is a plus.
