Infectious Disease Physician

Responsibilities

The Department of Internal Medicine at the Frederick P. Whiddon College of Medicine, University of South Alabama is seeking a full-time board-certified Infectious Disease (ID) Physician to join our practice. This provider will support initiatives to expand services to patients and collaboratively support the programs and activities conducted by the USA ID division.

Applicants with credentials to support the rank of assistant to full professor will be considered. The Division of Infectious Disease focuses on adult care and is involved in population and public health. supporting several local Federally Qualified Health Centers. Our current practice is comprised of five ID physicians and two advanced practice providers. In addition, our ID division operates a Ryan White HIV program. This program has growth opportunities for individuals who seek to further build on the clinical, public health, training and research successes of the division. The ID division provides infection control services and consultative care for inpatients at USA Health University Hospital, USA Health Children's and Women's Hospital with the potential to expand services locally. The division is deeply committed to excellence in teaching and training of students, residents and other healthcare providers. The division aspires to begin an Infectious Disease fellowship as part of the strategic goals to further expand access to ID care on the Gulf Coast.

We seek applicants with an understanding of the medical, educational, clinical, and administrative issues for Internal Medicine residents and 1st-4th year medical students at a small medical school. Providers will assist with inpatient ID care management (both independently and with residents) and outpatient clinical activity. Providers may be asked to assist with inpatient general internal medicine teaching services at our hospital as well. Successful applicants will assist with the residency program needs and quality improvement programs. There are expectations for career advancement through the academic promotions process.

Additional responsibilities for this role include but not limited to:

  • Participate by actively promoting the division in clinical care, research, and continuing medical education through programs that maximize exposure of our exceptional programs, faculty and expertise
  • Conduct clinical service responsibilities in the area of ID, both inpatient and outpatient as well as involvement with community Federally Qualified Health Centers
  • Teach and mentor medical students, residents, and other healthcare providers
  • Evidence of scholarly activities as demonstrated by publications and an active research program or interest in developing research initiatives
  • A commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning and patient care environment
  • Administrative duties as assigned
  • Rotating call
