Job description

Position Title: US History Teacher
Location: Southampton County Public Schools

Salary: $50,000.00 - $72,595.00 Based on Experience and Education
Reports To: Principal
Job Summary: A High School U.S. History Teacher instructs students on American history, fostering critical thinking by analyzing past events, figures, and documents to explain their relevance to modern society. Responsibilities include developing curriculum-aligned lesson plans, utilizing multimedia, grading assessments, and promoting civic engagement
Key Responsibilities






  • Instructional Delivery: Plan and lead engaging lessons on topics ranging from pre-colonial times to contemporary America.
  • Curriculum Alignment: Develop lesson plans that meet state and district standards, often incorporating Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) requirements.
  • Critical Analysis: Facilitate discussions and debates using primary and secondary sources to teach students how to identify bias and evaluate evidence.
  • Student Assessment: Evaluate progress through essays, projects, and exams, providing feedback that improves analytical skills.
  • Administrative Duties: Maintain accurate attendance and grade records, attend faculty meetings, and communicate with parents regarding student progress.
  • Mentorship: Serve as an advisor to student organizations or extracurricular clubs.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: A bachelor's degree in History or Secondary Education is required. Many school districts prefer candidates with a master's degree.
  • Licensure: A valid state teaching certification or license specific to social studies or secondary education is mandatory.
  • Testing: Completion of state-approved subject area exams, such as the Praxis series, to demonstrate subject proficiency.

    Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for school events and activities.
