Job description

Position Title: Adjunct Instructor of History

Position Purpose: The History Department at Cumberland University is seeking to develop an applicant pool for adjunct faculty to teach survey courses in U.S. and World History. Courses may be taught on campus and/or at dual enrollment sites in area high schools. These courses are options for the fulfillment of the History component of Cumberland University's General Education Core, and in the History major. These survey courses should provide students with a rigorous introduction to major historical themes, as well as to college-level writing, thinking, and analysis.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:
  • Ability to navigate instructional technology and software.
  • Demonstrated inter- and intrapersonal skills, especially in engaging with traditional and non-traditional university students.
  • Evidence of high level of personal agency and initiative.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.

Experience: Evidence of rigorous, creative, and effective teaching at the collegiate level.
Education: Completed Master's degree in United States History. 18 graduate hours in US History completed as part of a Master's degree in related field may be accepted.
Application Requirements: Available for Fall and Spring semesters on site at the main campus in Lebanon, TN and potentially at high school site(s) in Wilson County TN for dual enrollment courses. Minority candidates are encouraged to apply.
