What is a high profile nanny?

A high profile nanny is a childcare professional who works for families with a high public profile, such as celebrities, politicians, or high-net-worth individuals. These nannies often have specialized training and experience, and they are expected to provide exceptional care, maintain strict confidentiality, and sometimes travel with the family. Their role may include managing complex schedules, working with other household staff, and adapting to a dynamic, demanding environment. Discretion, flexibility, and professionalism are crucial qualities for high profile nannies.

What are some unique challenges of working as a high profile nanny, and how can I prepare for them?

Working as a high profile nanny often involves maintaining strict confidentiality, adapting to unpredictable schedules, and handling high expectations from both parents and household staff. You may also need to travel frequently and work with security personnel, requiring flexibility and professionalism at all times. To prepare, it's helpful to have experience in similar settings, strong communication skills, and a clear understanding of boundaries regarding privacy and discretion.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a high profile nanny, and why are they important?

To thrive as a High Profile Nanny, you need extensive childcare experience, early childhood education or relevant certifications (such as CPR and first aid), and a proven track record with high-net-worth families. Familiarity with household management tools, scheduling apps, and sometimes knowledge of a second language is often required. Discretion, flexibility, strong communication, and the ability to maintain professionalism under pressure are standout soft skills in this role. These qualities ensure the nanny can provide exceptional care while maintaining privacy and adapting to the dynamic needs of high-profile families.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide attentive and high-quality care for an 8-month-old baby

  • Follow the baby's daily routine and manage nursery duties, including safety and environment maintenance

  • Travel with the family domestically and internationally, managing all aspects of infant care and routines during travel

Job description

A warm, dynamic family in Atherton, CA, is seeking a career ROTA nanny for their 8 month-old, starting asap. The position will operate on a 1–2 week ROTA schedule, with the nanny working approximately 1–2 weeks on followed by 1–2 weeks off, depending on the family's needs and agreed rota.

The family travels regularly and is seeking a nanny who has significant previous experience travelling with high-profile/private families, including both domestic and international travel. The ideal candidate will be genuinely excited by a travel-heavy lifestyle and comfortable managing the practicalities of travelling with an infant, including packing, organising nursery supplies, maintaining routines across different time zones and environments, and adapting quickly to changing schedules.

The family is ideally seeking a long-term commitment from candidates to ensure consistency of care for their child, long-term nannies who are excited to grow with them, who can build a meaningful relationship with their child, and adapt as their needs evolve. They’re seeking warm, thoughtful nannies who are truly passionate and knowledgeable about child development, dedicated to creating a nurturing and calm environment, and who thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented household.

This is a deeply valued role in a loving home, with involved, mindful parents who respect and appreciate the unique contributions of a fantastic nanny. BAHS placed the family's second ROTA nanny.

  • Provide attentive and high-quality care for an 8-month-old baby
  • Follow the baby’s daily routine (feeding, diaper changes, nap times, playtime).
  • Engage in age-appropriate developmental activities such as tummy time, sensory play, reading, and music.
  • Create a joyful, loving environment where the baby feels safe, stimulated, and supported.
  • All typical nursery duties will apply - keeping play areas tidy, keeping on top of supplies, removing old toys/ wardrobe items that no longer fit, etc.
  • Ensure safety, comfort, safe sleep practices, and a clean environment for the baby.
  • Take full responsibility for the baby's needs while travelling, including packing and organising all essential baby-related items, clothing, food, equipment and supplies.
  • Travel confidently and seamlessly with the family on domestic and international trips, maintaining the baby's routine and comfort while away from home.
  • Be adaptable and solution-oriented when travelling, including managing changes in schedule, location, time zone and routine.
  • Collaborate with the parents to develop and implement routines that support the baby's developmental needs and adjust as the baby grows.
  • The parents value candidates who can gently guide them when required, while enabling them to be autonomous and hands-on whenever they can be

  • Extensive previous travel experience with private families is essential. Candidates should have a strong track record of travelling internationally and domestically with employers and be completely comfortable with frequent, sometimes long-haul travel.
  • Experience travelling with infants and young children is highly desirable.
  • Comfortable managing all aspects of infant care while travelling, including packing, logistics, equipment, routines, sleep and feeding.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ nanny experience with babies aged 0-24 months
  • A degree or certification in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Infant Care, or equivalent professional experience
  • Must be well-versed in developmental milestones, have baby-led weaning experience, and knowledge of infant care, including feeding, sleep routines, and safety
  • Must be emotionally stable, low ego, low drama, and a team player - staff retention is strong in this household, and everyone works together collaboratively/ harmoniously
  • Must be calm, grounded, and emotionally regulated
  • The ideal candidate will be passionate about childcare, dedicated to creating a nurturing environment, and able to work collaboratively with hands-on parents, household staff (Chef, Housekeeper, PA), and fellow caregivers, as well as take charge and work autonomously when this is required.
  • Portuguese language skills are a huge plus
  • Ability to swim/ drive (with a clean and current driving license)

  • US passport, Green Card or EAC, and be willing to travel with the family domestically and internationally
  • Substantial international and domestic family travel experience is required.

  • Desire to make a long-term commitment to a loving family
  • Infant and child CPR certification
  • Must be up to date on Flu/RSV/Tdap and MMR vaccinations
  • All candidates should be non-smokers

  • Up to $180,000
