Summary:

The Hibachi Chef is responsible for providing an entertaining and interactive dining experience for guests while preparing and cooking food on a hibachi grill. They must possess excellent culinary skills, showmanship, and the ability to engage and entertain guests.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Food Preparation:
    • Prepare and cook a variety of meats, seafood, vegetables, and rice dishes on a hibachi grill according to restaurant recipes and standards.
    • Ensure food is cooked to the proper temperature and meets all health and safety regulations.
    • Prepare sauces, marinades, and other accompaniments for the hibachi dishes.
  • Guest Interaction & Entertainment:
    • Engage guests in conversation and create a lively and entertaining atmosphere.
    • Perform tricks and culinary skills, such as flipping utensils, juggling eggs, and creating onion volcanoes.
    • Adapt the performance to the audience, ensuring a fun and memorable experience for all guests.
  • Customer Service:
    • Greet guests warmly and professionally, answering any questions they may have about the menu or cooking process.
    • Accommodate special requests and dietary restrictions whenever possible.
    • Ensure guest satisfaction by providing exceptional service and delicious food.
  • Cleanliness & Sanitation:
    • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including the hibachi grill, utensils, and surrounding areas.
    • Assists in maintaining clean and well kept vent hood systems.
    • Adhere to all food safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • Additional Duties:
    • Assist with kitchen tasks as needed, such as food preparation, cleaning, and stocking.
    • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as required.
    • Performs shift opening and closing duties as assigned by the manager such as cleaning of refrigeration units, gaskets, chef carts and floors.
    • Handles, stores, labels, and rotates foods properly and in accordance with public health safety, state and local laws.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Previous experience as a hibachi chef or cook is preferred, but not required. Willingness to learn and develop hibachi cooking and entertainment skills is essential.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent culinary skills, particularly in grilling and Japanese cuisine.
    • Strong showmanship and ability to engage and entertain guests.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
    • Attention to detail and ability to follow recipes and instructions.
  • Physical Requirements:
