What does an IT help desk intern do?

An IT help desk intern assists with troubleshooting technical issues, providing support for hardware, software, and network problems. They often respond to user inquiries, document issues, and may gain experience using ticketing systems and remote support tools under supervision.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Helpdesk Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Helpdesk Intern, you need a basic understanding of computer hardware, software troubleshooting, and customer service principles, often supported by coursework in IT or related fields. Familiarity with ticketing systems like ServiceNow or Zendesk and knowledge of common operating systems (Windows, macOS) are typically required. Strong communication, patience, and problem-solving skills help you effectively assist users and collaborate with team members. These skills ensure efficient technical support, positive user experiences, and a smooth workflow within IT environments.

What types of technical issues do Helpdesk Interns typically handle, and how is support prioritized?

Helpdesk Interns usually address a wide range of technical issues, from password resets and software troubleshooting to basic hardware support and network connectivity problems. Support requests are often prioritized based on urgency and impact; for example, issues affecting multiple users or critical business functions are handled first. Interns work closely with more experienced technicians, escalating complex problems as needed, which provides valuable learning opportunities and exposure to various IT systems. This environment helps interns develop problem-solving skills and gain hands-on experience with commonly used support tools and ticketing systems.

Is $30 an hour good for an internship?

For a Helpdesk Intern, $30 an hour is considered above average, as most internships in this field typically pay between minimum wage and $20 per hour. Higher pay may reflect specialized skills, certifications, or a more experienced role, but it is relatively high for an internship position. Internships often focus on training and experience, so pay rates can vary widely based on location and company policies.

Is 22 too old for an internship?

Helpdesk internships are typically open to candidates of various ages, including those in their early twenties. Age is generally not a barrier, and employers often value relevant skills, such as troubleshooting and customer service, over age when considering applicants for entry-level roles.

Is AI replacing IT's help desk?

AI is increasingly used to automate routine help desk tasks such as password resets and troubleshooting, but it does not fully replace helpdesk roles like Helpdesk Interns. Human support remains essential for complex issues, customer interaction, and problem-solving that require critical thinking and empathy. Helpdesk professionals often work alongside AI tools to improve efficiency and service quality.

What does a Helpdesk Intern do?

A Helpdesk Intern assists IT staff in providing technical support to end-users within an organization. Their responsibilities typically include troubleshooting basic computer issues, responding to service tickets, helping set up hardware or software, and documenting solutions. This role allows interns to gain hands-on experience with common IT systems and customer service skills, often under the supervision of more experienced technicians. It is an entry-level position ideal for those interested in pursuing a career in information technology.

Brand & Content Strategy Intern (Remote)Help Shape the Voice of Loud Baby

We're looking for a creative and organized student who wants real-world experience in brand marketing, social media strategy, and content planning.

This is a remote internship with flexible hours, making it ideal for students studying Marketing, Communications, Business, Digital Media, Journalism, Graphic Design, or Public Relations.

Help transform our existing photos, videos, and marketing materials into engaging social media content that tells the story of Loud Baby.

  • Edit and polish content for Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook
  • Create captions that reflect the Loud Baby brand and voice
  • Develop a monthly social media content calendar
  • Research social media trends and adapt them to our brand
  • Suggest creative campaigns that celebrate our customers and neighborhood
  • Identify opportunities to highlight our house-baked pastries, specialty coffee, coffee beans, artists, runners, parents, and community events
  • Recommend fresh ideas to increase engagement and attract new customers
  • Help strengthen and maintain a consistent brand identity across all platforms

We're Looking For Someone Who

  • Enjoys storytelling through social media
  • Has strong writing and communication skills
  • Is organized and can plan content in advance
  • Understands Instagram and TikTok trends
  • Likes working independently
  • Has an eye for aesthetics and branding
  • Wants to build a professional marketing portfolio

Bonus Skills

  • Canva
  • CapCut
  • Adobe Creative Suite
  • Later, Buffer, or other scheduling platforms
  • Photography or video editing
  • Copywriting

What You'll Gain

This internship offers hands-on experience in:

  • Brand strategy
  • Social media management
  • Content marketing
  • Community building
  • Editorial planning
  • Digital storytelling
  • Marketing analytics

By the end of the internship, you'll have created a professional portfolio that demonstrates your ability to manage a brand, build a content strategy, and execute a social media calendar—valuable experience for careers in marketing, communications, and digital media.

Schedule

  • Remote
  • 8–12 hours per week
  • Flexible around class schedules
  • Weekly virtual check-in with the Loud Baby team

Who should apply?

We're looking for someone who sees social media as more than posting pictures. We want someone who understands that every post contributes to a brand's story and community.

If you're excited about helping a beloved neighborhood café grow its digital presence while gaining meaningful marketing experience, we'd love to hear from you.

To apply, please send:

  • Your résumé (if available)
  • Links to any social media accounts, design work, writing samples, or creative projects
  • A brief note telling us why you'd like to help tell the Loud Baby story.
