Job description

At a glance
Company: Helander Metal Spinning Company
Location: Addison, IL 60101 (1393 W. Jeffrey Dr., on-site)
Job Type: Full-Time
Pay: $28โ€“$35/hr (based on demonstrated capability)
Shift: Day Shift
Experience: 3+ years
Work Authorization: ITAR environment (U.S. person required)

Why this job is worth considering

Helander Metal Spinning Company is looking for a Quality Inspector II to perform full dimensional and visual inspection on precision aerospace components, working independently within an AS9100D quality system. You'll interpret drawings and GD&T, support AS9102 First Article Inspection, and initiate nonconformance reports when something's off. Helander has a defined inspector ladder โ€” Inspector II, Inspector III, and Senior Inspector/CMM Programmer โ€” so there's a real path forward if you want to grow into CMM programming or a more senior inspection role. If you know your way around calipers, micrometers, indicators, and height gauges, and you want to work in a stable, established aerospace-manufacturing shop, this is worth a look.

What you'll be doing

  • Perform full dimensional and visual inspections independently using calipers, micrometers, indicators, and height gauges
  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
  • Support AS9102 First Article Inspection (FAI) and document results
  • Initiate nonconformance reports (NCRs) and support disposition activities
  • Maintain inspection records and traceability per AS9100D requirements
  • Support in-process, receiving, and final inspection activities as assigned

Equipment and software

You'll work with:

  • Hand inspection tools โ€” calipers, micrometers, indicators, and height gauges (core daily equipment)
  • CMM โ€” occasional exposure is a plus, not required on day one

What we're looking for

Required:

  • 3+ years of dimensional inspection experience in a machining or precision manufacturing environment
  • Strong blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation (ASME Y14.5)
  • Proficiency with hand inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, indicators, height gauges)
  • Accurate, disciplined documentation of inspection results

Preferred:

  • AS9102 First Article Inspection experience
  • CMM exposure (operation or basic programming)
  • Aerospace, AS9100, or NADCAP experience

Pay, benefits and schedule

Pay: $28โ€“$35/hr, commensurate with demonstrated inspection capability. Final level and pay are based on demonstrated competency, not tenure.

Schedule: Day shift, on-site.

Benefits: 401(k) with a 100%-vested 4% match after 30 days, employer-paid health insurance (70โ€“80% of premium), complimentary life, vision, and dental insurance, 9 paid holidays, 15 vacation days, 3 personal/sick days, and tuition reimbursement.
