Job description

As a Senior Engineering Leader focused on advancing DLR Group's Healthcare practice, you will have the opportunity to lead the design of complex healthcare facilities that support exceptional patient care, operational excellence, and sustainable design. Working collaboratively with the Healthcare leadership team, you will help execute the sector's business strategy while delivering innovative engineering solutions for hospitals, ambulatory care centers, outpatient facilities, and other healthcare environments.

You will lead multidisciplinary engineering teams to produce high-quality construction documents, manage project schedules, and ensure successful project delivery from concept through construction administration. Through DLR Group's integrated design approach, you will collaborate closely with architects, engineers, planners, and clients to create resilient, efficient, and patient-centered healthcare environments.

In addition, you will partner with Healthcare sector leadership to support business development initiatives, strengthen client relationships, and expand DLR Group's presence in the healthcare market. You will provide technical leadership and mentorship while ensuring engineering deliverables meet the highest standards of quality, performance, and budget.

The successful candidate will

  • Partner with the Global Healthcare Sector Leader and Regional Healthcare Sector Leader to establish strategic direction, support business planning initiatives, and drive the continued growth of the Healthcare practice.
  • Lead engineering project execution, ensuring alignment with project scope, schedule, budget, and client expectations.
  • Manage project milestones, monitor deliverables, and ensure compliance with quality standards while providing regular project status updates.
  • Facilitate and document meetings with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal project teams throughout all phases of project delivery.
  • Support business development by contributing to proposals, participating in client presentations and interviews, and cultivating long-term client relationships.
  • Lead the engineering design of complex healthcare projects, including hospitals, medical office buildings, ambulatory care facilities, and specialized treatment environments.
  • Collaborate closely with architects, engineers, planners, and clients through DLR Group's integrated design process to deliver innovative, efficient, and resilient healthcare facilities.
  • Perform technical reviews of interdisciplinary project deliverables to ensure quality, coordination, and code compliance.
  • Represent DLR Group at meetings with healthcare clients, owners, contractors, and industry partners.
  • Support the growth of DLR Group's Healthcare practice by identifying, attracting, mentoring, and developing engineering talent with healthcare design experience while fostering technical excellence, collaboration, and professional growth across the firm. 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
  • 10+ years of engineering design experience supporting healthcare projects, including hospitals, ambulatory care, outpatient facilities, or other complex healthcare environments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare planning, design, construction, and applicable codes and standards, including familiarity with FGI Guidelines, NFPA requirements, and healthcare regulatory environments.
  • Strong understanding of the design and construction process with the ability to effectively collaborate across multiple disciplines.
  • Excellent critical thinking, communication, project management, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong client relationships while supporting business development efforts.
  • Knowledge of local building, energy, and healthcare codes and standards.
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality engineering solutions.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including mentoring staff and fostering collaborative, high-performing teams.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to DLR Group's climate action initiatives, including AIA 2030, MEP 2040, and SE 2050.

Preferred Qualifications

  • WELL AP, LEED AP, or other relevant sustainability accreditation.
  • Experience with healthcare facility operations, infrastructure resiliency, and critical building systems.
  • Experience with renovations and phased construction within occupied healthcare environments.
