We deliver end-to-end solutions across the facility lifecycle, including design, prefabrication, installation, controls integration, and ongoing service. As one of the fastest-growing platforms in our space, we are focused on operational excellence, technical expertise, and building a high-performing team.
The Startup Technician supports the startup and commissioning of new HVAC systems under the guidance of the Startup Supervisor and senior startup technicians. This role is designed for individuals developing their technical expertise in commercial HVAC startup, controls, and commissioning.
Requirements
Startup Support
  • Assist in the startup of HVAC systems and equipment under supervision.
  • Perform basic system checks, record operating conditions, and verify system performance meets specifications.
  • Review project scope, drawings, and startup documentation to understand assigned work.
  • Support senior technicians with control systems setup, equipment testing, and system troubleshooting.
  • Document startup activities and maintain accurate project logs and photos.
  • Communicate material needs, delays, or jobsite conditions to the Startup Supervisor promptly.
  • Ensure startup sheets, checklists, and work orders are completed daily in Vista.

Standardization
  • Follow established startup procedures, ensuring consistency and safety across projects.
  • Participate in process improvement efforts by providing feedback to enhance efficiency.

Customer & Team Collaboration
  • Maintain professional communication with project managers, field leadership, and customers.
  • Support a culture of accountability, safety, and quality workmanship.

Education and Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2-4 years of HVAC experience (commercial or light commercial preferred).
  • EPA Universal or Type II certification required (or obtained within 90 days of hire).
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
  • Technical or trade school certificate preferred.
  • Experience with VRF systems, rooftop units, or chillers a plus.
  • Basic understanding of HVAC systems, including refrigeration cycles and airflow principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and wiring diagrams.
  • Familiarity with basic hand tools, meters, and gauges used in HVAC startup work.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn control systems and assist with wiring and commissioning tasks.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and capable of learning internal systems (e.g., Vista).

Physical Requirements
  • Required to stand, walk, and sit.
  • Talk or hear, both in person and by telephone.
  • Use hand (s) and fingers to handle or feel objects or controls.
  • Reach with hand (s) and arm (s).
  • Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, and lift up to 50 pounds.
