Job description

If you are a seasoned safety professional looking to make an impact in a rewarding industry, join our team! As a Safety Specialist III, you will be a senior member of the health, safety, and environmental (HSE) team, responsible for driving continuous improvement in safety performance. You will lead complex safety initiatives, mentor junior team members, and serve as a subject matter expert on HSE matters.The Mission Solutions and Technologies (MST) business area provides affordable, turn-key command/control, communications, integrated ISR, force protection and security solutions worldwide. The MST team has a long legacy of supporting the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, commercial and international customers with years of experience in platform operations, engineering and full lifecycle management across domains - air, land, sea, space and cyber.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of HSE policies and procedures.

  • Perform detailed safety inspections and risk assessments.

  • Develop and deliver HSE training programs for employees.

  • Conduct thorough investigations of accidents, incidents, and near-misses, and develop preventive measures.

  • Maintain and analyze HSE metrics and data to identify trends and areas for improvement.

  • Coordinate emergency response and preparedness activities.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address HSE concerns.

  • Ensure compliance with industry-specific HSE regulations and standards.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.

  • 2+ years of experience in a related field.

  • Relevant experience can be considered as a substitute for the required educational qualifications. In the absence of a degree, a minimum of 6 years of related experience is required.

  • Higher level relevant degree may substitute for experience.

  • In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local HSE regulations.

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

  • Knowledgeable with a variety of occupational health & safety standards, EPA, OSHA, and NFPA regulations.

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct a job hazard analysis, site audits, and incident root cause analysis.

  • Fluency with data capture, data analytics, spreadsheets, and presentation.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP) and/or Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician (OHST) certification.

  • Advanced knowledge of HSE management systems.

  • Familiarity or direct experience with implementation or maintenance of ISO 45001 certification.

  • Subject matter expertise/competency or certification in one or more of the following areas: Radiation Safety (officer), Laser Safety (officer) Fall Protection, Lockout/Tagout, Electrical Safety (NFPA 70E), MEWP & PIT program management, Thermography, Hazardous Material Transportation, Lithium-Ion battery safety and storage, First Aid/CPR/AED Trainer, OSHA 500/501, OSHA 510/511

  • Master's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field.

  • Experience with DCMA INST 8210.

  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry.

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to conduct safety inspections and audits, which may involve walking, climbing, and standing for extended periods.

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs regularly.

  • Ability to work in various environments, including office, manufacturing, and outdoor settings.

  • Must be able to work in a team and effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to travel as required.

  • Proficiency in using computers and software applications related to HSE.
