What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Health Producer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Health Producer, you need a strong background in journalism, health communication, and a solid understanding of medical terminology, often supported by a relevant degree in journalism or communications. Familiarity with content management systems, video editing software, and digital analytics tools is typically required. Excellent research skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex health topics clearly are standout soft skills in this role. These competencies ensure accurate, engaging, and trustworthy health content is created for diverse audiences.

What are some common challenges Health Producers face when creating medically accurate content for diverse audiences?

Health Producers often need to balance medical accuracy with accessibility, ensuring that complex health information is easy for non-expert audiences to understand. A key challenge is collaborating with medical professionals to fact-check content while also engaging viewers through compelling storytelling. Additionally, Health Producers must stay up-to-date with evolving health guidelines and tailor content to various platforms, all while meeting tight deadlines. Effective teamwork and clear communication with editors, writers, and subject matter experts are essential in overcoming these challenges.

What is a Health Producer?

A Health Producer is a media professional who specializes in creating, coordinating, and overseeing health-related content for television, radio, digital platforms, or print. They work closely with reporters, medical experts, and production teams to ensure health stories are accurate, engaging, and informative. Health Producers often research medical topics, schedule interviews, supervise filming or recording sessions, and edit content to make complex health information accessible to the public. Their goal is to provide audiences with reliable and up-to-date health news and features.

What jobs make $3,000 a month without a degree?

A health producer typically requires specialized knowledge and experience, and may not be a common role without formal education. However, in general, jobs such as administrative assistants, sales representatives, or certain customer service roles can earn around $3,000 monthly without a degree, especially with experience or certifications. These positions often involve skills like communication, organization, and familiarity with industry tools, and may require working in fast-paced environments or flexible schedules.

What is the difference between Health Producer vs Health Coordinator?

Job description

We're hiring a unique role that blends two functions: supporting our employee benefits team with administrative and processing work, and growing our individual health book of business by working incoming referrals.

This is a great fit for someone who:

  • Enjoys both detail-oriented service work AND client-facing sales conversations
  • Wants a stable base salary plus uncapped commission upside
  • Is excited to build their own book of business while supporting a senior team
  • Can move fluidly between focused processing work and relationship-building

Employee Benefits Support (Estimating 60% of role)

  • Own ICHRA enrollment processing end-to-end: client intake, carrier submissions, employee onboarding, documentation, follow-up
  • Process group benefits administrative work: data entry, carrier portal submissions, document preparation
  • Provide backup support to the EB Producer during peak periods (open enrollment, Q4 renewals)
  • Respond to routine employee questions on benefits, COBRA, and plan details
  • Maintain accurate records in our AMS

Individual Health Sales (Estimating 40% of role)

  • Work incoming individual health leads (ACA marketplace, individual major medical, Medicare, supplemental products)
  • Quote, present, and close individual health policies
  • Manage your individual health book post-sale: renewals, plan changes, client questions
  • Document all sales activity in AMS
  • Cross-sell life and supplemental products where appropriate

What You'll Be Accountable For (Your "Five")

  1. ICHRA enrollments processed accurately and on time
  2. EB administrative work completed within service standards
  3. Individual health quotes generated and closed at industry benchmark rates or better
  4. Individual health book retention (the clients you sell, you keep)
  5. Cross-team support during peak EB periods

What We're Looking For

Required

  • Active Life & Health insurance license โ€” OR willingness to obtain within 60 days of hire (we'll support study time and reimburse exam costs)
  • 1-3 years of experience in insurance, benefits administration, healthcare, or financial services
  • Strong attention to detail and comfort with administrative/processing work
  • Comfort with sales conversations โ€” including handling objections and rejection
  • Proficiency with technology: CRM systems, carrier portals, Microsoft Office
  • Excellent written and verbal communication

Strongly Preferred

  • ACA marketplace experience
  • Experience in an independent agency or brokerage environment
  • Medicare experience (Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement, Part D)
  • Prior work with ICHRA, QSEHRA, or other defined contribution health arrangements

What Makes You Successful Here

  • You enjoy both modes of work โ€” quiet focused processing AND client conversations
  • You don't need someone telling you what to do every hour of the day
  • You take ownership of mistakes and learn from them
  • You're coachable and want to grow your sales skills over time
  • You can manage a varied workload without losing track of the details
