Health Insurance Navigators spend much of their day assisting individuals and families in understanding their health insurance options, helping them complete applications for coverage, and troubleshooting enrollment issues. They often conduct one-on-one appointments, coordinate outreach events, and collaborate with community organizations to reach underserved populations. Additionally, Navigators stay up-to-date on changing regulations and attend regular team meetings to share best practices and case updates. This role requires a balance of direct client interaction, administrative documentation, and ongoing professional development.
A Health Insurance Navigator helps individuals and families understand their health insurance options, enroll in coverage, and navigate the complexities of health care plans. They provide free, unbiased assistance, often working with government programs like the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplace. Navigators explain benefits, eligibility, and financial assistance options while ensuring compliance with regulations. They do not sell insurance but instead guide consumers in making informed decisions. Additionally, they may assist with Medicaid and CHIP applications.

AccessHealth was selected to provide community navigation services as part of the United Way of Greater Houston’s Second Century Vision initiative. Our navigation team helps individuals and families access essential resources and services to meet their personal, financial, educational, and social needs.
The Community Health Navigator serves as a frontline public health worker and acts as a liaison between AccessHealth clinics and community resources. This role is responsible for connecting patients and community members with healthcare and social services to improve overall well-being.
