Job description

TITLE: SR. MEMBER OF TECHNICAL STAFF
FLSA STATUS: EXEMPT
REPORTS TO: VICE PRESIDENT ENGINEERING
SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the VP of Engineering, the Sr. Member of Technical Staff is responsible for the mechanical and tribology design and testing of HDD heads with the focus on the Head/Disk Interface reliability - with the focus on the HAMR technology. This position is located in Milpitas, California.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Acts as HDI/HMS lead for the mechanical design and testing of HDD heads, working closely with teams in TDK/HWY and SAE to address thermo-mechanical design issues.
  • Interact closely with the wafer design and process teams at Headway and the back-end process teams in SAE
  • Validates and tests new designs with the testing team on site
  • Interacts with and makes presentations to various customer groups on HDI programs and products
  • Adheres to all safety policies and procedures as required
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level*

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics and/or equivalent relevant experience
  • Ten years of progressively challenging experience working in the HDD industry
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Applications
  • Must be able to travel internationally on a quarterly basis

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of HDI design in HDD with some application to HAMR technology
  • Knowledge of the principles of reliability and failure analysis
  • Skilled in ANSYS, MATLAB, Python, or similar platform
  • Knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office applications to create spreadsheets, Word documents, and presentations
  • Able to analyze data, create various reports, and recommend corrective action
  • Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of contractors, consultants, employees, and management
  • Able to work productively and collaboratively with all levels of employees and management
  • Able to comply with all safety policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with customers and make presentations
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and trouble shooting skills
  • Flexible and able to prioritize

The annual base salary for this full-time position is between $159,948.00-$235,217.00 + bonus target + benefits. Within the range the individual pay may differ depending on additional factors including job responsibilities, job related knowledge, skills, abilities, education, and experience. The annual base pay range shown is subject to change and may be modified periodically.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The Sr. Member of Technical Staff works primarily in an office environment from Monday to Friday. The schedule maybe altered from time-to-time to meet business or operational needs; may travel from building-to-building as needed. May also work in a class 100 ESD sensitive wafer fab manufacturing facility; adheres to required safety and dress standards. May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, fumes, or vapors and excessive noise from time-to-time while in the wafer manufacturing facility; stands and walks; performs various fine grasping movements, bends, and twists; operates a computer and enters information using a keyboard, operates a telephone, and other office equipment. May occasionally be required to push, pull, or lift up to 10 pounds. May travel internationally four or more times per year.
