As a Senior Optical Engineer, the ideal candidate will have a strong background in optical design, testing, and evaluation of optical systems. The candidate will be responsible for the design and development of optical systems for various applications, including but not limited to spectroscopy, sensing, and optical imaging systems. The successful candidate will also have experience in managing and mentoring a team of junior engineers and working collaboratively with other engineering and cross-functional teams.As a Sr. Optical Engineer you will:• Design and develop optical systems for various applications, including but not limited to spectroscopy, sensing, and optical imaging systems.• Perform optical system analysis, modeling, tolerancing, and simulation.• Conduct optical component selection and characterization.• Design and conduct optical experiments and tests.• Analyze optical data and generate reports for management and cross-functional teams.• Manage and mentor a team of junior engineers.• Work collaboratively with other engineering and cross-functional teams to ensure timely and successful project completion.• Stay current with advances in optical technologies and industry trends.• Identify and recommend new optical technologies and tools to enhance the company's product offerings.• Other duties as assigned.ABOUT THE CANDIDATEOur ideal candidate brings a wealth of engineering experience and will possess:• Masters or Ph.D. in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.• 7+ years of experience in optical system design, testing, and evaluation.• Strong knowledge of optical design software, such as Zemax or Code V.• Knowledge of Fred a plus.• Experience with optical component selection and characterization.• Experience with optical system analysis, modeling, and simulation.• Experience with optical testing and experimentation.• Strong communication Design for high-volume manufacturing.• Strong data analysis capability, including experience using MATLAB, Python or comparable.• Experience with factory ramp and new product introduction.• Outstanding interpersonal skills, innovation, and the ability to motivate inspire, and influence cross-group/functional teams with a high degree of independence and success .• An entrepreneurial spirit and mindset, bringing a natural curiosity for what “can be” and the willingness to challenge boundaries.• Ability to deal with ambiguity, navigate uncertain situations, and drive for clarity .• Ability to operate effectively in a highly matrixed organization, influencing culture and decisions.• Demonstrated critical thinking capacity while maintaining a wholistic business view (ability to operate at tactical and strategic levels).• Strong bias for action, a high sense of urgency, and the ability to drive results.• Proven ability to work independently.• High standard of ethics and integrity.ABOUT THE COMPANYOcean Optics pioneered miniature spectrometers and deliver spectral solutions to researchers, OEMs, and industrial customers, also designs and builds industrial-grade photonics systems for material inspection, chemical identification, and quality assurance.At Ocean We Measure What Matters, and our Mission is to design precise photonics systems to solve customer measurement challenges to make the world safer, cleaner, and healthier.
