Key Purpose of Role

Since 2020, our Financial Risk Solutions (FRS) business has greatly expanded its short-term trade credit insurance product offerings. We now seek to properly structure and resource our Short-Term Trade Solutions (STTS) team to further build on our capabilities and accelerate that profitable expansion globally.

The Head of STTS will have full responsibility to manage the underwriting of the STTS business within Liberty Specialty Markets. The Head of STTS will be responsible for the development and implementation of STTS strategy and underwriting guidelines in coordination with the Global Head of FRS, the Global Chief Credit Head of Country, Credit & Portfolio Risk Management and Liberty Specialty Markets underwriting guidelines. As the primary face of our STTS business in the Americas, the Head of STTS will also be responsible for growing our business within the region directly by marketing to key brokers and clients and expanding the STTS footprint. The Head of STTS also develops and implements marketing and broker strategy and oversees the underwriting with a team of Underwriting Officers and Underwriting Managers globally.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversight of global STTS Underwriting:

  • Responsible for developing and disseminating the underwriting guidelines of the STTS pillar to the FRS team globally
  • Drives the implementation of strategic and operational objectives for STTS product suite
  • Engages actively to approve limits and transactions within Underwriting Authority for STTS that reflects our market-leading position for service and quality
  • Markets STTS products to banks and brokers in the Americas and globally to drive submission flow
  • Oversees regular STTS team calls and the STTS Risk Forumย 
  • Responsible for managing STTS budget planning by region
  • Regularly engages with UW team individually and in a group setting to review and approve transactions and otherwise support prompt client servicing
  • Engages with Actuarial team to maintain proper rater parameters, pricing controls and standards within the STTS book of businessย  ย 
  • Actively supports the underwriting of new and renewal business of complex accounts often with direct client ownership and engagement
  • Contributes and participates actively in FRS Executive Leadership Team (ELT) meetings to provide updated information on the STTS business, provide underwriting knowledge, share and develop strategy, and provide overall support for FRS and STTS
  • Sustains a culture based on mutual respect, teamwork, creativity and a desire to constantly evolve and improve
  • Contributes new ideas and concepts to make things better

Deliveryย 

  • Support STTS/MBTC Americas, UK/Europe and APAC underwriting teams in their underwriting of risks in accordance with the business plan and in accordance with risk and pricing guidelines for STTSย ย ย ย ย 
  • Establish and promote strong relationships globally with Trade Credit brokers, clients, industry bodies, business partners, reinsurers and colleagues, to maximize influence and achieve business objectives
  • Represent Liberty's interests with internal and external groups, and through participation in Trade Credit risk industry forums and corporate activity to safeguard or enhance Liberty's market position
  • Present STTS strategy and business results to both internal and external stakeholders on an ad hoc basisย 
  • Continually develop expertise and technical knowledge through appropriate development initiativesย ย ย 
  • Support CCRM in their review and analysis of the STTS portfolio, to identify new business development opportunities and to help create and maintain a resilient FRS global portfolio, including the development of appropriate risk, pricing and portfolio targetsย  ย ย 
  • Chair STTS meetings and ensure that the STTS team has the appropriate underwriting guidance and risk escalation framework, including appropriate risk forum meeting cadence and guidelines for risk forum submissions

  • Comply with all applicable internal and external laws, regulations, policies, procedures and guidance
  • Adhere to underwriting standards, instructions and best practice methodology to minimize risk as incorporated into the Underwriting Controls Framework
  • Adherence to all relevant regulatory requirements forms part of your role, and the demonstration of behaviors as set out in the Conduct Risk Policy, as they relate to your role, is core to LSM's commitment to placing customers at the center of our business and behaving with integrity.ย  LSM expects you to understand your responsibilities relating to all regulatory and internal requirements, and to proactively demonstrate compliance with these requirements and behaviors at all times. These requirements include Solvency II, fair treatment of customers, Financial Crime, Data Protection, Conflicts of Interest, and Whistleblowing

People Management

  • Lead and influence as well as manage and mentor junior and senior members in the FRS team to help achieve STTS goals and objectivesย ย ย ย ย 
  • Provide broader leadership and guidance within STTS and FRS to strengthen the team culture
Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 10 years working in the Financial Services sector, preferably in an insurance company's credit and political risk insurance team, in a Financial Institution credit risk or export/trade/structuring team or Public Agency engaged in credit risk insurance or direct lending
  • Recognized market leader in trade credit insurance in the region
  • Strong knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements
  • Requires an advanced knowledge of underwriting concepts, practices, procedures and techniques, including, but not limited to coverage issues, product lines, marketing, computers and product competition within the marketplace.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical and decision-making skills also required.
