Description:

Boar's Head Resort is seeking an experienced and motivated Lead Engineer with extensive HVAC expertise to oversee the maintenance, operation, and continuous improvement of the resort's mechanical systems. This leadership role is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all building systems while delivering exceptional guest experience through proactive facility management.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong troubleshooting skills, a commitment to preventive maintenance, and experience managing engineering operations in a hospitality, resort, commercial, or similar environment.


  Key Responsibilities 

  • Lead, mentor, and supervise the Engineering team, providing daily directions, coaching, and performance feedback.
  •  Oversee the operation, maintenance, repair, and optimization of all HVAC systems, including chillers, boilers, cooling towers, pumps, air handlers, rooftop units, split systems, and building automation systems.
  • Develop and manage preventive maintenance programs to maximize equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC issues in a timely manner.
  •  Ensure guest rooms, public spaces, restaurants, meeting venues, spa facilities, and back-of-house areas remain in excellent operating condition.
  •  Monitor and maintain Building Automation Systems (BAS) to improve energy efficiency and occupant comfort.
  •  Coordinate outside contractors for specialized repairs, inspections, and capital improvement projects.
  •  Maintain compliance with OSHA, local building codes, fire/life safety regulations, and environmental standards.
  •  Respond to emergency maintenance situations and participate in an on-call rotation as needed.
  •  Assist with departmental budgeting, inventory management, and procurement of parts and supplies.
  •  Maintain accurate maintenance records, equipment logs, work orders, and inspection documentation.
  •  Collaborate with resort leadership to support renovations, special events, and capital improvement initiatives.
  •   Promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and exceptional customer service.


Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential:

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of commercial HVAC experience.
  • At least 2 years of supervisory or team leadership experience.
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification required.


Strong knowledge of:

o Commercial HVAC systems

o Electrical and mechanical systems

o Plumbing systems

o Building Automation Systems (BAS)

o Preventive maintenance programs

  • Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) is preferred.
  •  Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  •  Experience in a hotel, resort, healthcare, university, or large commercial property.
  •  Experience with energy management and sustainability initiatives.
  •  Knowledge of pool mechanical systems, boilers, and water treatment.
  •  Trade licenses or certifications in HVAC, electrical, or mechanical disciplines.

All employees must learn and comply with all Resort safety rules; must use appropriate safety equipment at all times; must immediately report all unsafe conditions to supervisors; must be familiar with all safety features or equipment, machinery or materials encompassed by job duties; and must check with supervisor if there is a question as to the safe procedure to be used for any job function.
