Assistant Execution Trader information

What is an assistant execution trader?

Assistant Execution Traders are finance professionals who support senior traders in executing buy and sell orders for securities on behalf of clients or the firm. They help monitor market conditions, ensure timely and accurate trades, and manage order flow using electronic trading platforms. Their role often includes pre-trade analysis, post-trade reporting, and communicating with brokers to ensure the best execution prices. Assistant Execution Traders play a crucial role in minimizing trading costs and risks while learning the skills needed to advance to more senior trading positions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an assistant execution trader?

To thrive as an Assistant Execution Trader, you need solid analytical skills, a degree in finance or a related field, and a strong understanding of financial markets and instruments. Familiarity with trading platforms, order management systems (OMS), and relevant certifications like Series 7 or 63 are typically required. Excellent attention to detail, quick decision-making, and effective communication help you excel in fast-paced trading environments. These skills ensure accurate trade execution, risk mitigation, and smooth coordination with traders and clients, which are vital for optimal trading performance.

What are some common challenges faced by assistant execution traders, and how can they effectively address them?

Assistant Execution Traders often face the challenge of executing trades quickly and accurately in fast-moving markets while minimizing errors and slippage. They must manage multiple orders simultaneously, keep up with real-time market data, and communicate effectively with both senior traders and compliance teams. To address these challenges, Assistant Execution Traders should develop strong attention to detail, maintain a calm demeanor under pressure, and continuously improve their knowledge of trading systems and regulations. Building strong working relationships with team members and proactively seeking feedback can also help them adapt and excel in this dynamic environment.

Job description

Are you ready to be a big part of something big?
At Trader Interactive, we make buying and selling a great experience. We're a group of go-getters who decided they didn't want to settle for the status quo. We come together as one team to build value and drive innovation across our industries - but we have fun while we do it and make sure our people are always our #1 priority.
When it comes to your career, we want to provide big opportunities to help you make a big impact. But for this to be possible, we strive to feel small. Small enough to quickly change tack, small enough to learn from different teams and small enough to connect authentically with leadership.
What We Offer
  • An inclusive and supportive work environment where you can move your career forward and will have the chance to do work that has real, significant impact on the world.
  • The opportunity to be a part of a global group of digital marketplace businesses (CAR Group) located across Australia, Brazil, Chile and South Korea - collectively we have around 1,800 team members worldwide, and our Global Talent Exchange Program means you might just find yourself working in one of those businesses sometime soon.
  • Plenty of flexible leave options and employee benefits including up to 31 days of paid time off in your first year, continuing education with access to LinkedIn Learning, a full benefits package including medical, dental & vision, 401K with company match, and wellness program.

What You'll Do
As a Software Engineer I at Trader Interactive, you will contribute to the implementation of foundational product features, writing high-quality, secure, and maintainable code under technical guidance. You will be responsible for adhering to established development standards, managing individual task delivery, and writing robust unit tests to ensure application health. Collaborating closely within your engineering team, you will focus on building your domain expertise, absorbing code review feedback, and proactively aligning technical execution with the team's immediate delivery goals. In this role, the Software Engineer I actively develops their technical skill set and fosters collaborative peer connections, contributing to the steady execution and success of the task force.
  • Consistently write and maintain secure, maintainable, readable, and testable code under supervision, ensuring all deliverables strictly meet relevant acceptance criteria and the team's Definition of Done.
  • Implement basic features and core functions within a software component while building an introductory understanding of the broader component architecture and standard design patterns.
  • Adhere closely to established team development standards, style guides, and coding best practices, incorporating code review feedback loops, including critically reviewing AI-generated code before submission, to optimize technical execution.
  • Identify, report, and debug technical issues within familiar codebases and local systems, collaborating actively with peers and utilizing standard team troubleshooting workflows to resolve blockers quickly.
  • Actively participate in unit testing efforts and automated testing setups with engineering guidance, aligning code output with the organization's testing pyramid objectives.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools (such as AI code assistants) to accelerate routine coding, testing, and debugging tasks, always validating generated output for correctness, security, and maintainability before use.
  • Engage in foundational innovation and domain growth by sharing useful execution ideas, researching team systems, and pursuing stretch assignments to expand overall domain knowledge.
  • Observe and collaborate with senior team members to learn task breakdown methodologies, aiming to provide reliable, data-backed effort estimations for individual deliverables.
  • Proactively identify, escalate, and communicate dependencies, technical friction, or blockers within personal scope to mitigate delivery risks early.
  • Demonstrate standard operational awareness by learning the organization's core monitoring philosophies and observing system health data relative to the team's domain.

What We're Looking For
  • Experience with TypeScript.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., AI code assistants), and a willingness to use them responsibly to improve productivity.
  • Understanding of version control systems (e.g., Git), and understanding of software development workflows.
  • Understanding of software design principles, such as object-oriented programming and software architecture.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to debug simple issues and seek help when needed.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt, demonstrating initiative in mastering new technologies and improving existing skill sets.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.

Bonus Points
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or related STEM fields

So come and join our team - because every role is a big role in our plans to go big.
TI proudly supports a diverse workforce, and we encourage candidates from underrepresented groups to apply. Trader Interactive is an equal opportunity employer where hiring is based entirely on business needs, job requirements, and individual merit.
