Overview

Position Title: Head of Maintenance - Hill Campus
Department: Facilities
Reports To: Director of Facilities
FLSA Status: Exempt
Employment Type: Full-Time, On-Site
Location: Hill Campus (5250 Fieldston Rd, Bronx, NY 10471)
Supervises: Maintenance Team (10+ staff members)

The Head of Hill Campus Maintenance is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing day-to-day maintenance operations on the Hill Campus. Reporting directly to the Director of Facilities, this position ensures the upkeep, safety, and efficient functioning of all mechanical systems and building infrastructure. The Head of Hill Campus Maintenance provides daily supervision and guidance to a team of maintenance professionals, coordinates with other operations teams, and supports the overall mission of the School through service excellence and effective stewardship of campus resources.


Responsibilities

  • Lead, schedule, and assign daily work orders for the Maintenance Team using the electronic work-order system.
  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of all mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems on the Hill Campus.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of supplies, tools, and replacement parts; place orders as needed.
  • Supervise and coordinate with outside contractors for specialized work, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Perform minor electrical and plumbing repairs as needed.
  • Operate HVAC equipment and associated building management systems.
  • Support the Grounds Team with equipment maintenance as necessary.
  • Collaborate with the custodial and grounds departments to coordinate event setups and logistics.
  • Ensure adherence to all safety codes, school policies, and applicable NYC regulations.
  • Promote teamwork, communication, and accountability within the Maintenance Department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities.

Leadership & Management Expectations

  • Provide daily supervision, coaching, and professional support to Maintenance team members.
  • Foster a respectful and inclusive work environment that reflects Riverdale’s values of collaboration, integrity, and service.
  • Model professionalism, reliability, and proactive problem-solving.
  • Maintain strong communication with the Director of Facilities, vendors, and other campus departments.
  • Ensure that all maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards of quality.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate’s degree or higher may substitute for up to three years of experience.
  • Minimum of eight years of experience in a skilled trade or maintenance role, with at least three years in a supervisory or management capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience in HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of NYC building codes and safety regulations.
  • Proficiency in using computerized work-order and maintenance systems.
  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to use or learn word processing and spreadsheet software.

  • FDNY Certificate of Fitness P-99 (Low-Pressure Boiler Operation)
  • FDNY Certificate of Fitness P-13 (Supervision of Bulk Oil Storage Facility)
  • FDNY Certificate of Fitness D-20 (Fire & Emergency Drill Conductor for NYC K-12 Nonpublic Schools)
  • FDNY Certificate of Fitness F-03 (Indoor Place of Assembly Safety Personnel)
  • FDNY Certificate of Fitness F-01 (Citywide Fire Guard for Impairment)
  • FDNY Certificate of Fitness F-60 (Fire Guard for Torch Operations)
    Additional certificates may be required as city codes evolve. Reasonable time will be provided to obtain new certifications.

Technology Skills

  • Digital Productivity: High proficiency in Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, Drive) for reporting, data tracking, and team collaboration.
  • Building Operations: Proven experience operating Building Automation Systems (BAS) or Energy Management Systems (EMS) to monitor HVAC, lighting, and critical alarms.
  • Maintenance Management: Experience using CMMS software to manage work orders, track assets, and execute preventative maintenance schedules (preferred).
