Job description

The Global Head of Risk Engineering will lead the development, innovation, and scaling of risk management strategies and services that help clients address complex and evolving risk landscapes. This senior leadership role will bring together and shape a global community of engineers, specialists, and consultants, ensuring consistency and excellence in service delivery while fostering innovation across geographies, industries, and risk domains. 
Success in this role requires a strategic and influential leader who can inspire teams in a matrix environment, drive innovation through data and technology, integrate risk engineering deeper into the broking value proposition, and collaborate effectively across the global brokerage, advisory, and insurance ecosystem. This position has a global remit, and we welcome applications from a range of locations. Key locations include, but are not limited to, the United Kingdom, Europe, and Asia.

The Role: 
 

Strategic Leadership

  • Define and execute the global risk engineering strategy, ensuring alignment with the firm's broader goals while anticipating emerging risks and client needs.
  • Build a best-in-class global risk engineering framework and service delivery model that is agile, consistent, and technology-enabled.
  • Influence and collaborate with colleagues across brokerage, client advisory, placement, and analytics teams to embed risk engineering insights into client solutions and market strategies.
  • Represent WTW as a global authority on risk engineering through industry forums, publications, and client engagements, shaping market perspectives and driving brand differentiation.

Risk Engineering & Advisory

  • Oversee the development and continuous enhancement of methodologies, tools, and technical standards for risk assessment and mitigation.
  • Lead the evaluation of traditional and emerging risks (e.g., natural catastrophe, supply chain, cyber, climate/ESG, regulatory/compliance risk and sector-specific threats).
  • Provide senior-level insights to clients, translating technical findings into actionable strategies that strengthen resilience and support risk transfer.
  • Take ownership of complex or distressed client engagements, addressing concerns, and restoring confidence through clear communication and practical solutions.
  • Innovation, Data & Technology
  • Champion the integration of data, technology, and analytics into all aspects of risk engineering.
  • Drive innovation in digital tools, modeling approaches, and client delivery platforms to differentiate and scale services.
  • Leverage advanced analytics and technology platforms to create new value propositions for clients and markets.

Client & Market Engagement

  • Represent the firm globally on risk engineering matters with insurers, regulators, industry bodies, and client forums.
  • Strengthen the client value proposition by connecting risk engineering insights with analytics and advisory services.
  • Build and sustain trusted relationships with senior executives, boards, and risk leaders.
  • Collaborate with marketing and thought leadership teams to project WTW's risk engineering expertise and reputation through publications, events, and digital channels.

People & Matrix Leadership

  • Lead, inspire, and develop a diverse, global team of engineers and consultants.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and innovation across regions and business lines.
  • Navigate and influence in a matrix environment, partnering effectively across functions, geographies, and disciplines.
  • Attract, develop, and retain top technical and leadership talent.

What you'll bring: 

  • Extensive experience of progressive leadership experience in risk engineering or risk consulting in an insurance brokerage, underwriting or independent risk engineering provider.
  • Proven ability to lead and influence in a complex, global matrix organization.
  • Deep technical expertise across multiple risk domains (property, casualty, cyber, climate/ESG, natural catastrophe).
  • Demonstrated success in leveraging data analytics, modeling, and digital tools to transform risk engineering practices.
  • Strong understanding of insurance markets, underwriting processes, and the strategic role of engineering insights.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence at board and C-suite levels.
  • Advanced degree in engineering, risk management, or related field preferred; additional qualifications in insurance and/or management a plus; Professional designations and charterships (e.g., PE, CEng, CFPS, ARM, CPCU) also a plus.
