Lake Tahoe School

Incline Village, Nevada (Lake Tahoe)

Salary: $90,000 – $150,000, depending on experience and qualifications

Relocation Assistance: One-time $10,000 relocation allowance (paid upon completion of relocation)

Located on the beautiful north shore of Lake Tahoe in Incline Village, Nevada, Lake Tahoe School is an independent Preschool through Grade 8 school committed to academic excellence, character development, outdoor education, and community.

Position Summary

The Director of Finance and Operations serves as a member of the School's senior leadership team and is responsible for the overall financial and business operations of Lake Tahoe School.

The successful candidate will partner closely with the Head of School and Board of Trustees to provide strategic financial leadership while ensuring outstanding day-to-day business operations.

This position regularly attends Board of Trustees and Finance Committee meetings, prepares financial reports and forecasts, supports strategic planning, and helps ensure the long-term financial sustainability of the School. The position also oversees business office functions including accounting, payroll, budgeting, financial reporting, tuition billing, purchasing, insurance, risk management, and audit coordination.

Primary Responsibilities

Financial Leadership

  • Lead preparation of the annual operating budget and long-range financial forecasts.
  • Prepare timely monthly financial statements and Board reporting packages.
  • Develop meaningful financial dashboards and key performance indicators.
  • Strengthen internal financial controls and accounting procedures.
  • Support endowment, reserve, and capital planning initiatives.
  • Coordinate the annual independent audit.

Business Operations

  • Oversee accounting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, banking, and cash management.
  • Administer tuition billing, collections, financial aid, and enrollment-related financial processes.
  • Manage vendor contracts, insurance programs, and financial compliance.
  • Support facilities planning and capital improvement budgeting.
  • Advise and approve financial aid packages for consideration by the Head of School

Strategic Leadership

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the Head of School and Finance Committee.
  • Present financial information clearly to trustees, faculty, and school leadership.
  • Develop multi-year financial models to support strategic decision-making.
  • Help improve operational systems and organizational efficiency.
  • Participate as a collaborative member of the senior administrative team.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum five years of progressively responsible financial leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and managing nonprofit operating budgets.
  • Experience presenting financial information to Boards of Directors or Trustees.
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles, internal controls, and financial reporting.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • High degree of integrity, professionalism, and sound judgment.

Preferred

  • CPA, MBA, or other advanced financial credential.
  • Experience working in an independent school, charter school, private school, college, university, or other nonprofit educational organization.
  • Experience working with tuition-dependent organizations.
  • Experience with Blackbaud, FACTS, QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, or comparable nonprofit financial systems.
  • Experience coordinating annual independent audits.
  • Human Resources and employee benefits administration experience.
  • Facilities and risk management experience.
