Job Profile:

The Deputy Head of School works in close partnership with the Head of School to provide strategic leadership, operational oversight, and instructional guidance to ensure the continued growth, effectiveness, and success of the school. This role is critical in driving school improvement, fostering a strong culture of learning, and maintaining high standards across all aspects of school life.

Core Purpose

To support the Head of School in leading and managing the school by:

Driving the vision and strategic direction to ensure continuous school improvement

Contributing to the development, implementation, and evaluation of the School Development Plan

Supporting daily operations and maintaining a strong, visible leadership presence

Modeling excellence in teaching, leadership, and professionalism

Leading delegated areas of responsibility with accountability and impact

Promoting the safeguarding, well-being, and holistic development of all students

Acting on behalf of the Head of School when required

Strategic Direction and Development

  • Contribute to the articulation and execution of a clear, compelling school vision
  • Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of the School Development Plan
  • Lead and contribute to policy development and review aligned with strategic priorities
  • Ensure curriculum design and development meets the needs of all learners and supports progression and continuity
  • Drive continuous improvement through data-informed decision-making
  • Initiate and lead staff development aligned to school priorities and improvement goals

Leadership and Management

  • Inspire, challenge, and empower staff to achieve ambitious outcomes
  • Establish clear expectations, accountability structures, and collaborative working relationships
  • Lead and manage change effectively, ensuring strong communication and staff engagement
  • Maintain high standards of professional performance and address underperformance when necessary
  • Directly supervise designated areas (e.g., Upper School), supporting leadership development and accountability
  • Support the Head of School in financial planning, resource allocation, and operational efficiency
  • Maintain a strong, visible presence across the school community

Learning and Teaching

  • Lead the implementation and monitoring of the Learning Improvement Plan (LIP), ensuring alignment with strategic priorities
  • Drive a culture of high-impact teaching and learning across the school
  • Utilize data (e.g., assessments, learning visits, student outcomes) to inform instruction and program development
  • Collaborate with faculty to design and implement instructional initiatives that improve student outcomes
  • Monitor progress toward LIP goals and report outcomes to leadership and stakeholders
  • Promote innovation, student agency, and effective use of technology in learning
  • Support cross-curricular collaboration and continuous instructional improvement
  • Contribute to whole-school data analysis and target setting
  • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for all students

Safeguarding and Student Well-Being

  • Promote and uphold the highest standards of safeguarding and child protection
  • Ensure compliance with all safeguarding policies and procedures
  • Foster a culture of care, respect, and well-being across the school community

Operational Leadership

  • Support the day-to-day management of the school to ensure smooth and effective operations
  • Contribute to staffing, scheduling, and resource planning
  • Maintain a visible leadership presence to support staff and students
  • Deputize for the Head of School as required
