Job description

Position Description The Inventory Control Specialist's responsibilities include inventory control, managing deliveries, inspecting inventory, and maintaining inventory records of the 8,000+ assets (capital and non-capital assets) and equipment inventory for the Harris County Toll Road Authority (HCTRA). Primary duties include daily and monthly maintenance of HCTRA's inventory; annual reconciliation of HCTRA's asset/equipment inventory; receiving, tagging, and updating new HCTRA assets; and tracking, preparing, and transferring surplus assets to Harris County Purchasing Services. This position also participates in shipping and receiving new equipment, the fulfillment of office and janitorial supplies, tracking and storing roadway supplies and materials, and other maintenance functions related to the HCTRA Distribution Center.

Duties & Responsibilities: Verifies, monitors, and maintains additions and deletions to the Capital Asset inventory; communicates and coordinates with the Auditor's and Purchasing Departments, and various HCTRA departments to confirm the status and location of assets. Identifies and tracks HCTRA's 8,000+ assets for discrepancies during the Annual Capital Asset Inventory using data from the PeopleSoft system and department-generated spreadsheets and reports; submits reports and supporting documentation of daily and monthly inventory activity. Prepares surplus items for pick-up and transfer between HCTRA and Harris County Purchasing Services for proper disposal; documents all steps of the asset transfer process.

Receives new assets, equipment, roadway materials, and supplies; verifies accuracy against shipping documents and coordinates pick-up and delivery with the appropriate HCTRA department. Processes new equipment to ensure proper barcode tagging and accurate entry of key data into the asset management tracking system. Ensures all materials in the HCTRA Distribution Center are organized, properly stocked, stored, and maintained in good condition; maintains a clean, orderly, and safe warehouse environment at all times.

Processes orders; responds to inquiries from HCTRA staff regarding orders; assists with file creation; prepares spreadsheets and reports using various software; and performs general administrative duties including filing, copying, and attending department meetings. Requirements Required Education / Experience: High School Diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited institution. One year of inventory, warehouse operations, and shipping and receiving experience. Valid Texas Class C Driver License Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of inventory control and ability to manage a warehouse and supplies at the proper inventory level.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, exercising tact in an expeditious, courteous, and efficient manner while establishing an effective working relationship with others. Knowledge of general shipping and receiving procedures. Ability to manage priorities and workflow.

Ability to operate general office equipment, personal computers and related software such as Microsoft Office including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases with good typing and data entry skills. Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment. Good analytical and organizational skills.

Ability to operate a forklift in a safe manner. Ability to drive a 26' box truck (CDL license NOT required). Physical Demands: The position can be physically challenging.

Above average physical conditioning is required to be able to walk, bend, stoop, climb, reach, stretch, etc. In performance of their duties. Lifting up to 80 lbs.

may be required General Information Position Type and Typical Hours Work: This is a full-time position. Days of work are Monday-Friday. Hours may vary based on business needs of the department.

Work Environment: A normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature controls and furnishings is provided. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The job may require extended time outside in all weather conditions.

Exposure to extreme temperatures, environmental noise typically present in a maintenance yard, warehouse, and loading dock environment. May be exposed to other hazards during inclement weather or maintenance emergency response activities. Will be required to handle chemicals already packaged in end-user containers/packaging.
