Job description
Albany State University is a fully accredited senior unit of the University System of Georgia. Employees receive benefits provided by the University System of Georgia, including, but not limited to, medical and major medical insurance, group life insurance, participation in the Georgia Teachers' Retirement System, Optional Retirement Plan (Faculty and exempt employees only), Social Security and Tuition Assistance Program after six months of employment.
Location
Our West Campus is located at 2400 Gillionville Road, Albany, GA 31707. Our East Campus is located at 504 College Drive, Albany, GA 31705. The Human Resources office for both campuses is located on the West Campus in Building K, Suite 209.
Job Summary
The Department of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Physics seeks motivated and dependable Student Assistants to support activities associated with the National Science Foundation (NSF) Historically Black Colleges and Universities Undergraduate Program (HBCU-UP) Grant. Student Assistants will contribute to the success of the grant by assisting with marketing, recruitment, program logistics, participant engagement, and other project-related activities.
This position provides students with valuable leadership, communication, organizational, and professional development experience while supporting initiatives designed to enhance student success in STEM disciplines.
Sponsorship is not available for this position.
Responsibilities
- Assist with marketing and promotional activities for NSF HBCU-UP programs and events.
- Support student recruitment efforts through outreach, presentations, campus events, and information sessions.
- Assist with planning, coordinating, and implementing program activities, workshops, meetings, and special events.
- Provide logistical support, including event setup, registration, attendance tracking, and participant communications.
- Create and distribute program materials, flyers, social media content, and other promotional resources.
- Maintain accurate records, databases, and project documentation.
- Assist with data collection and reporting activities as needed.
- Provide general administrative and operational support to project staff and faculty.
- Represent the NSF HBCU-UP program in a professional and positive manner.
- Perform other duties related to the grant and project objectives as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Current undergraduate STEM student in good academic standing.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with computers and standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite, email, and internet-based tools).
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Dependable, professional, and detail-oriented.
