Job description

Fabrication Welder / Assembler – Rail Gear Installation

Location: New Century, KS
Company: Interstate Assembly Systems

Interstate Assembly Systems is seeking an experienced Fabrication Welder / Assembler to install and retrofit aftermarket hi-rail (rail gear) systems on commercial trucks and heavy equipment. This position is ideal for a skilled fabricator with experience in welding, hydraulics, electrical systems, and truck equipment installation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install front and rear hi-rail gear assemblies on light-, medium-, and heavy-duty trucks.
  • Retrofit commercial vehicles for highway-to-rail operation.
  • Fabricate, weld, and assemble mounting brackets, supports, and structural components.
  • Install hydraulic pumps, valves, cylinders, and high-pressure hose systems.
  • Integrate electrical controls, sensors, safety alarms, and in-cab switches.
  • Read and interpret hydraulic schematics, blueprints, and electrical wiring diagrams.
  • Test, troubleshoot, and verify proper operation of completed installations.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of fabrication, welding, truck upfitting, or heavy equipment assembly experience.
  • Strong MIG welding and metal fabrication skills.
  • Experience with hydraulic and electrical systems.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and schematics.
  • Familiarity with rail gear manufacturers such as Harsco, DMF, or Rafna preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required.
