Job description

Systems, LLC, an affiliate of Chamberlain Group, is a U.S.-based manufacturer of loading dock equipment-marketed under the Poweramp, DLM, and McGuire brands. With manufacturing facilities in Germantown, Wisconsin and Malvern, Arkansas, all products are designed and produced in the USA using lean manufacturing techniques. We strive to recruit the best talent in the industry and give employees opportunities for continuing education and training to help them advance in their careers.
  • Perform visual inspection of manual and robotic welds against the applicable welding code, drawings and weld symbols; accept, reject or route nonconforming welds per the reaction plan.
  • Maintain Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR); ensure welders and robotic-weld operators are qualified to the applicable procedure and that qualifications remain current.
  • Determine and document when non-destructive testing (NDT) is required for critical welds; coordinate NDT and review results for disposition.
  • Establish and maintain weld-inspection checklists, sampling plans and acceptance criteria; integrate weld checks into the control plan for critical assembly operations.
  • Monitor robotic welding setups and first articles; verify program/fixture changes do not degrade weld quality.
  • Record inspection results electronically within the ERP/quality database; analyze weld-defect trends and escalate recurring issues to Engineering, Production and Quality leadership.
  • Support root-cause analysis and corrective action for weld-related defects, rework and scrap.
  • Coach welders and operators on workmanship standards and defect prevention; support training and qualification of new welding personnel.
  • Support new product introduction by reviewing weldments for inspectability and feeding weld acceptance criteria into PFMEA and Control Plans.
  • Comply with health and safety guidelines and rules; managers should also ensure compliance across their teams.
  • Protect Chamberlain Group's and Systems' reputation by keeping information confidential.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reading professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Contribute to the team effort by accomplishing related results and participating on projects as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or technical school certificate/degree

  • 3+ years of weld inspection or welding experience in a structural or heavy metal-fabrication environment

  • Experience interpreting weld symbols, fabrication drawings and welding codes

  • Working knowledge of the applicable structural welding code (confirm governing code, e.g. AWS D1.1)

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols and inspection plans

  • Working knowledge of visual weld-inspection tools and gauges (fillet gauges, etc.)

  • Basic knowledge of NDT methods and when each is applicable

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and ERP/quality-database systems

  • Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills

  • Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification, or equivalent recognized weld-inspection certification
  • Ability to work on the manufacturing floor near active welding operations using required PPE
