Hardware Engineering Manager โ DC/Power Instrumentation (North Reading, MA)

Opportunity Overview
We're looking for a DC Hardware Engineering Manager to join our team in North Reading, MA. This role focuses on leading the architecture, development, and delivery of DC power supply hardware for advanced test systems, while also acting as a playerโcoach who actively contributes to design, prototyping, and validation.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of hardware engineers, providing technical guidance and architectural direction for DC power supply development.
- Act as a playerโcoach, actively contributing to the design, development, and validation of DC power instruments.
- Oversee hardware development projects from concept to production, ensuring timelines, deliverables, and high quality.
- Manage crossโfunctional collaboration with firmware, software, mechanical, systems, operations, and manufacturing engineering.
- Identify and implement process improvements in power hardware design, validation, and manufacturing to enhance product quality and engineering efficiency.
- Ensure products meet or exceed customer requirements, industry standards, safety expectations, and regulatory compliance; troubleshoot and resolve issues in partnership with validation, quality, and operations teams.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of handsโon hardware engineering experience with a strong background in DC power supply or power electronics design.
- 2+ years in a managerial role, ideally in a playerโcoach capacity requiring both technical contribution and team management.
- Direct experience managing 6 or more staff members.
- Strong knowledge of electrical engineering fundamentals, analog/power circuit design, control loops, and power conversion principles.
- Experience with laboratory debugging and validation tools such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, electronic loads, and power analyzers.
- Knowledge of industry standards and best practices related to power hardware design, safety, and quality assurance.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage teams, collaborate crossโfunctionally, and communicate complex technical concepts to nonโtechnical stakeholders.
- Excellent problemโsolving abilities and a proactive approach to challenges.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with power supply architectures, thermal design considerations, and complex boardโlevel power systems.
- Strong understanding of DCโDC converters, ACโDC conversion, regulation, protection schemes, and power system integration.
Compensation
The base salary range for this role is $201,000 โ $321,600, varying with experience and skill set. This role also includes discretionary bonuses based on financial performance.
