What is a Hamptons babysitter?

Hamptons babysitters are childcare professionals who provide babysitting services to families living in or vacationing in the Hamptons, a popular summer destination in New York. They are often hired for their experience, reliability, and ability to offer high-quality care, sometimes on short notice or for extended hours. Many Hamptons babysitters are expected to have certifications in CPR and first aid, and some may offer additional services like tutoring, swimming supervision, or organizing activities for children. Their roles can vary from occasional evening babysitting to full-time nanny care during the summer season.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Hamptons babysitter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Hamptons Babysitter, you need proven childcare experience, a basic understanding of child development, and often CPR/first aid certification. Familiarity with communication apps for scheduling, home security systems, and sometimes knowledge of smart home technology are typically required. Outstanding soft skills include reliability, discretion, strong interpersonal communication, and the ability to engage children in age-appropriate activities. These skills are vital to ensure the safety, wellbeing, and development of children while meeting the high expectations of families in the Hamptons.

What are the typical expectations for a Hamptons babysitter during peak summer months?

During the busy summer season in the Hamptons, babysitters are often expected to provide flexible coverage for families who may have irregular schedules, including weekends and evenings. Responsibilities can range from supervising children at the beach or pool to organizing engaging activities and helping with meals. Many families also look for sitters who are comfortable with travel and can adapt to a fast-paced, sometimes high-profile environment. Strong communication skills and professionalism are essential, as babysitters frequently coordinate with parents, household staff, and occasionally other caregivers.

Job description

A busy and active family in Rye is seeking two ROTA nannies for their four children, ages 4, 8, 10, and 12. The schedule for the nannies will be one week on/one week off. The nannies will provide full availability during their shift- during a typical week the primary childcare hours will be Monday through Friday: 6-9am and 2-9pm, and Saturday and Sunday as needed. During the hours the children are in school the nannies will be responsible for maintaining organization of their belongings and spaces, and helping to pick up the kitchen in the evening and prepare the children's school belongings for the next day. There will be downtime during the day as well. The children are all very active in sports and activities, so the weekend hours will vary, but the nanny should be available and expect to work longer hours on the weekend. The family is open to live-in or live-out for this role, if a candidate lives locally and is open to staying over if needed during the "on" rotation. If the nanny chooses to stay in the provided accommodations during their "on" shift, they should live close enough to return home during their "off" shift. The family will not pay for fly in/out.

  • Create a fun and engaging environment in the home that considers different developmental stages
  • Drive the children to and from school, and to extracurriculars
  • Proactively plan and schedule activities, playdates, and classes
  • Facilitate and supervise meal, hygiene and bedtime routines
  • Assist with homework and helping the older children stay organized and on track with schoolwork
  • Supervise and remind children to handle their chores (emptying dishwasher, feeding dogs, setting table, putting away clothing, etc)
  • Meal preparation as needed (most cooking is done by mom and the house manager, but the nanny should be comfortable preparing basic meals)
  • Child related laundry
  • Maintain organization within the children's belongings and spaces
  • Willing to travel as needed both domestically and internationally
  • Live-in in the Hamptons during the summer months

  • Loving, warm, and engaging with children
  • Friendly, with a positive attitude
  • Able to act as a team with parents and other caregivers, while also proactive and able to provide full charge care as needed
  • Provide structure and boundaries in a patient and child-centered way
  • Happy to work with a co-nanny, communicating as needed to provide continuity of care

  • US work authorization
  • Ability and comfort working around small dogs (no care required)
  • Experience with early school age through teens, with multiple children of varied ages
  • Driver's license and clean driving record (the family will provide a car for work use)
  • Ability to swim and supervise children in the water
  • Able to travel domestically and internationally
  • ROTA experience is NOT required for this role!

  • $40-50/hr.+ DOE
  • Healthcare reimbursement
