Job description

Looking for a fun, fast-paced seasonal opportunity where no two days are the same? As a Seasonal Public Events Assistant, you'll help make some of the Indianapolis Zoo's largest annual events a success. Working alongside the Public Events team, you'll support the planning, coordination, and day-to-day operations that create memorable experiences for thousands of guests each season.
About the Role
The Seasonal Public Events Assistant collaborates with teams across the Zoo to help coordinate event logistics, maintain event inventory, support volunteers, and ensure events run smoothly. If you have a passion for special events and enjoy working behind the scenes while also being part of the action, this is a great opportunity to gain hands on experience in event operations. This is a seasonal position working up to 40 hours per week for approximately six months. Evening, weekend, and holiday availability is required. This is a seasonal, 40 hours per week position that requires availability to work weekends, holidays and overtime as needed. Seasonal assignments are temporary in nature and are expected to last approximately six (6) months.
Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the planning, coordination, setup, operation, and wrap-up of ZooBoo, Christmas at the Zoo, and other Public Events.
  • Help maintain and track Public Events inventory and supplies.
  • Provide administrative support to the Public Events team.
  • Support and work alongside Zoo volunteers during event activities.

What We're Looking For
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Communicate professionally with guests, volunteers, vendors, and Zoo staff.
  • Comfortable working independently and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Positive attitude with a willingness to learn and contribute wherever needed.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; trade or technical school certification is a plus.
  • Two or more years of experience in event production, technical theater, performing arts, construction, or a related field.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Indiana driver's license (or obtain one within thirty 30 days of hire date) and be insurable by the Indianapolis Zoo's insurance company.
