What is a gynecologic oncologist?

A gynecologic oncologist is a medical doctor who specializes in diagnosing and treating cancers of the female reproductive system, including ovarian, uterine, cervical, vulvar, and vaginal cancers. They have advanced training in both obstetrics and gynecology as well as oncology, enabling them to provide comprehensive care that may include surgery, chemotherapy, and other treatments. These specialists often work as part of a multidisciplinary team to offer patients the best possible outcomes. Their expertise also extends to managing complex gynecologic conditions and providing follow-up care after cancer treatment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Gynecologic Oncologist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Gynecologic Oncologist, you need extensive knowledge in gynecology, oncology, and surgical procedures, supported by an MD or DO degree, completion of an OB/GYN residency, and a gynecologic oncology fellowship.
