Job description

The production line lead is responsible for one or more production assembly lines and manufacturing practices within a department. They are responsible for the communication and proper execution of job assignments by means of training, placement of line workers, feeding or stocking materials for the line, safety, and ensuring all productivity goals, company standards, and procedures are met. Serves as a point person to share information, handle set-up, metal checks, and routine line prep processes.
Requirements
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
In this role, you will set up the production line each day, ensure the line is properly stocked during assembly runs, quality and completion goals are met, and closely inspects the output for the run and shift to ensure it meets company standards. Drives production standards, sets the pace for productivity, may correct unsafe actions and ensures proper processes are followed. Duties include:
Job Description:
  • A key contact to ensure line start-up and set-up is done properly. Checks to make sure materials and packaging needed are available.
  • Ensure production line has all required stock, packaging, and materials to maintain flow & reduce downtime.
  • Must have knowledge of all standard product run rates & ensure line is meeting them. May document reasons for failure to meet run rates or downtime experienced.
  • Responsible for inventory controls and maintains accurate inventory of materials and supplies. May be involved in stock rotation as required.
  • Inspects equipment before use, monitors equipment during runs and reports malfunctions, repairs needed or concerns to a supervisor or Manager for address.
  • Must be proactive in notifying mechanical issues to Maintenance.
  • Input Red Zone notifications when necessary.
  • Identify employees on a line that are not wearing proper PPE and address the matter or report to a Team Lead or Supervisor when repeatedly addressed for correction.
  • Identify safety concerns or violations related to the line operations. Report safety and security issues for all employees.
  • Ensure quality and safety of food products by periodic inspection and review of finished products for uniformity to specifications, label integrity, presentation.
  • Ensure proper cleaning and sanitation between product runs and/ or shifts, as required.
  • Attach identifying tags to containers or mark them with identifying information.
  • Thoroughly complete paperwork associated with job requirements.
  • Verifies full completion and accuracy of orders. Pursues continuous improvement with run rates, quality and productivity as part of the broader team.
  • Performs other duties as needed.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent education.
  • Previous experience working in a chilled manufacturing environment is preferred
  • Experience tracking inventory materials and supplies and using an Inventory Scan gun and helpful
  • Must be able to start-up and safely operate common food manufacturing equipment
  • Good knowledge and understanding of Safe work practices common to food manufacturing
  • Bilingual (Spanish / English) helpful
  • Basic computer skills (Word and Excel) preferred.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of safe work practices, GMP's, and food borne illness in a food warehouse or manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work in a cold/ damp environment, stand and walk for extended periods
  • Must be able to complete common paperwork related to inventory, receiving and material handling
  • Ability to read computer generated reports
  • Must have strong interpersonal and employee relation skills
  • Ability to read, comprehend and speak professionally with team members
  • Must have basic mathematical skills

WORK DEMANDS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this Job work is primarily performed in a chilled environment. Regularly required to stand, walk, squat, stoop, bend, reach, talk or hear. Required to use hands and fingers finger, handle, lift, feel, push, or pull objects. Exerts up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently. Often required to lift and carry 10 lbs. force constantly to move objects. Exposed to chilled or warm temperatures within the operation. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
