What is a GTM engineer?

A GTM (Go-to-Market) Engineer is a professional who bridges the gap between technical product development and commercial teams. GTM Engineers work closely with sales, marketing, and product teams to ensure new products or features are successfully launched and adopted in the market. They help translate technical capabilities into customer benefits, provide technical expertise during sales cycles, and may assist with product demonstrations, solution architecture, and customer feedback. Their goal is to accelerate product adoption and support revenue growth through technical enablement.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a GTM engineer?

To excel as a GTM Engineer, you need a solid background in software engineering, product management, and business acumen, often with a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) platforms, cloud services, APIs, and analytics tools is commonly required. Strong communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills help bridge technical and business teams effectively. Mastering these areas ensures successful product launches, customer satisfaction, and alignment between technical solutions and market needs.

What are some typical challenges a GTM engineer faces when integrating new products into existing sales and marketing workflows?

A GTM Engineer often encounters challenges such as aligning technical product features with the needs of the sales and marketing teams, ensuring seamless data flow between tools (like CRMs and marketing automation platforms), and translating complex product capabilities into clear value propositions. Additionally, they must anticipate and resolve compatibility or scalability issues that could impact go-to-market strategies. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams and maintaining open communication is key to overcoming these hurdles and ensuring successful product launches.

What is the difference between Gtm Engineer vs Data Engineer?

AspectGtm EngineerData Engineer

Work EnvironmentMarketing teams, analytics, and advertising platformsData teams, data warehouses, and backend systems
Industry UsageAdvertising, marketing, e-commerceTech, finance, healthcare, any data-driven industry

While both roles involve working with data, Gtm Engineers focus on implementing marketing and analytics tools for growth and tracking, whereas Data Engineers build and maintain data pipelines and infrastructure. Understanding these differences helps organizations assign the right skills to each role.

Is a Gtm Engineer a good career?

A Gtm Engineer specializes in implementing and optimizing go-to-market strategies using tools like marketing automation and analytics platforms. The role offers opportunities for growth in marketing technology, data analysis, and cross-functional collaboration, often requiring skills in programming, data management, and marketing tools. It can be a rewarding career for those interested in technology-driven marketing and strategic planning.

What do Gtm engineers do?

GTM (Go-to-Market) engineers develop and implement technical solutions to support product launches, sales, and marketing strategies. They often work with tools like CRM systems, analytics platforms, and automation software to optimize customer engagement and revenue growth. Strong coding skills and understanding of business processes are essential for this role.

About Nominal

Nominal is building the connected test and operations platform powering the world's most advanced hardware systems, from spacecraft and autonomous vehicles to next-generation defense programs. Our platform gives hardware engineering teams a single place to ingest data, analyze performance, automate test execution, and collaborate across every phase of development, so they can move faster without sacrificing safety or precision. We're a fast-moving team that owns problems end-to-end, works across disciplines, and thrives at the intersection of hardware and software.

We serve top-tier commercial and defense customers, from autonomy leaders like Anduril and Shield AI to next-generation aerospace teams like Hermeus and REGENT, and performance engineering teams like Pratt Miller Motorsports, alongside mission partners within the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force on programs where failure isn’t an option. We’re backed by Sequoia, General Catalyst, Founders Fund, Lux Capital, and Lightspeed. Our team draws from SpaceX, Palantir, Anduril, Applied Intuition, and other leading companies, united by a common mission: giving hardware engineers the tools to build the future with speed, safety, and confidence.

This is our first GTM Engineer. You will influence the technical infrastructure that the revenue org runs on: the data pipelines built on top of our Salesforce architecture, the internal tools that turn that data into action, and the automated workflows that connect our stack.

RevOps has built the first generation of these systems — live forecast trackers, automated call-routing from Gong into Slack, account-scoring dashboards, comp calculators, a contract-monitoring bot, and the Salesforce schema work underneath all of it. That backlog has outgrown a single operator. You will take ownership of it, harden what exists, and build what doesn't yet.

This is a full-stack revenue infrastructure role. You report directly to the Head of Revenue Operations, who will define priorities and scope of your work, and you’ll partner across Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, and Data.

About the role
  • Learn our Salesforce and overall sales tooling architecture well enough to build on top of it — the data model, field taxonomy, and dependency logic — and flag where it needs to change so the systems you build stay reliable.
  • Build the data pipelines that move information between Salesforce, Gong, Common Room, Slack, and our enrichment sources as scoped by your manager or lead — and keep them accurate, monitored, and live.
  • Ship internal tools assigned to you: forecast trackers, scoring dashboards, comp calculators, deal-desk monitoring executing against specs your manager defines.
  • Build signal-based and AI-driven workflows based on defined requirements: routing, enrichment, next-best-action surfacing, and automated outreach support across the funnel.
  • Support Area Directors, AEs, and CSwith tools and fixes your manager prioritizes, surfacing friction you’re noticing along the way.
  • Define and defend data quality across the stack — pipeline health, field hygiene, and sync integrity are yours to own.
  • Own and maintain code repositories governing internal GTM tooling, ensuring that these systems are maintainable, secure, legible, and compliant
  • Prototype and rapidly iterate on new tooling and integrations as the shape of the GTM function evolves at Nominal
We’d love to hear from you if
  • You have 2+ years in an analytical / data engineering / software engineering role.
  • You write SQL and at least one scripting language (Python preferred) and use them to build within a defined scope, not just to query.
  • You're fluent with AI tooling and put it to work in what you build — LLMs for enrichment, scoring, drafting, or agentic workflows.
  • You've built end-to-end data pipelines: you can speak to inputs, transformations, outputs, and how you kept them from silently breaking.
  • You can take a clearly scoped problem and return a working tool; you ask good clarifying questions when a spec is incomplete rather than filling gaps yourself.
  • You can quantify your impact in revenue terms — pipeline influenced, hours removed, cost per lead.
  • You maintain data governance, quality, and integrity inside fast moving software systems; changing your system does not mean losing data or data enrichments
  • You can design software without a dedicated designer; you can develop interfaces that work for and grow with an entire revenue org
Skills that supercharge us
  • You've integrated LLMs into GTM workflows (enrichment, scoring rationale, outreach drafting, agentic systems).
  • You've applied Model Context Protocol or similar agent frameworks to internal tooling.
  • Experience with Gong, Common Room, Clay, or comparable parts of a modern GTM stack.
  • You've sold into or supported technical, hardware, or government/defense buyers.
  • You've shipped and shared your work publicly — a portfolio of systems you built and the results they produced.
Benefits/Perks
  • 100% coverage of medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Unlimited PTO and sick leave
  • Free lunch, snacks, and coffee
  • Professional development stipend
  • Annual company retreat
