Job description

Grow West Internship

Are you currently a college student majoring in Agriculture, Plant Science, or related Field? The Grow West Internship is an exciting opportunity that will provide you with invaluable work experience and knowledge in agricultural chemical, fertilizer, and technology industry. The field scout is responsible for the monitoring and recording of pest activity, sampling, and trap placement.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Scout crops for weeds, diseases, and pests and report to appropriate Sales staff. *

2. Install and monitor traps in fields. *

3. Collect soil, tissue and water samples as needed or directed by Sales staff. *

4. Complete weekly scouting reports. *

5. Develop a thorough knowledge and understanding of our computer programs, product deliveries and inventory tracking. *

6. Proactively seek and participate in available company-sponsored training, in an effort to develop and advance skill set and knowledge base. *

7. Present a professional image to our customers in all interactions (verbal, in-person, e-mail, etc.). *

8. Follow all safety rules and regulations while performing work assignments and adhere to all policies (i.e. vehicle, equipment usage, social media policy, etc.) and procedures as specified in company manuals and as directed in the employee handbook. *

9. Participate in weekly check-in phone calls with Human Resources. *

10. Complete and present a company project at the conclusion of the internship. *

11. Ability to work overtime as needed. *

12. Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

Communication Skills:

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Edge and Adobe Acrobat.

Education/Experience:

Currently enrolled in an accredited university. College student majoring in Agriculture, Plant Science, or Horticulture.
