Reporting to the CTO, the Technical Director is responsible for engineering leadership, system architecture, development process, and code quality across projects spanning XR/MR applications, real-time motion capture pipelines, embedded systems, and a multi-tenant cloud SaaS platform.

This is a hands-on leadership position. The successful candidate will lead people and set direction while remaining directly engaged in architecture, technical review, and delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership

Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software developers

Manage performance, career development, and technical growth of direct reports

Participate in hiring, onboarding, and resource planning

Foster engineering excellence with an emphasis on computer science fundamentals, design patterns, and language-agnostic problem solving

Architecture & Technical Direction

Steward and suggest system architecture across projects; define technical standards and design patterns

Lead technical design reviews and architectural decision-making

Ensure solutions are scalable, secure, maintainable, and appropriately documented

Evaluate build-vs-buy and technology selection decisions with clear trade-off analysis

Quality & Delivery

Establish and enforce code review standards; personally conduct reviews of critical work

Own engineering accountability for correctness, security, and performance of all shipped code, including AI-assisted output

Manage delivery across the full software development lifecycle, from requirements through deployment and support

Report delivery status, risk, and estimates to executive leadership

Process & Innovation

Lead the evaluation and integration of AI-assisted and agentic development tools into the SDLC

Monitor advancements in ML/LLM capabilities and efficiencies; assess business and engineering impact

Deep working knowledge of the full SDLC and modern DevOps practices

Working knowledge of LLMs and machine learning approaches, including their architectures, capabilities, and limitations
